I can't believe how bad the Maps app is. Looking at an area I know well, loads of things in Shepperton (TW17) are listed as being in Staines (TW18), with a Church Road in both places it's put a Subway in a field in Shepperton. Although they're not exactly in the town centres both Weybridge (KT13) and Walton-On-Thames (KT12) stations are listed as being in West Molesey (KT8). Someone's really ballsed up on this, it just wasn't ready for release was it?

I don't rely on maps too much, when I do I just won't rely on Apple's app getting me to where I want to go.

I've just noticed that Bolton and Blackburn aren't labelled at all, at any zoom level.

Never really used google maps on IOS5, so not really bothered about the new apple maps on IOS6 whether they work or not.
Have looked at my own place and it's a more upto date picture than what was on google maps

I wouldn't worry to much, Google have submitted their map app to the store so we should see it very soon.

Apple maps is something I can see getting better over time but for the time being Google maps is probably more useful.

I actually think this is a good thing as now Google are able to update their map app whenever they wish, so we might see features that have been on Android for ages now such as turn by turn directions and pre-downloading of maps. I can see where Apple are coming from though, it always felt that Google left out these features intentionally to make Android seem better, why else did we not have them?

I'm not an iPhone owner so can't really comment on how the maps were in iOS5 against iOS6, but I did find this article interesting - http://crave.cnet.co.uk/software/ios...maps-50009259/

Going by comments here and around the web it seems a lot of people are waiting for Google to release a Maps App, could they/would they charge for it?

Ultimately it is all down to what Apple will allow. Hopefully they see sense and authorise Google Maps as an app and allow it to have full functionality.

Apple have been known in the past to block apps because 'it duplicates functionality already available' - but considering the bad press Apple Maps has received, hopefully they see sense and allow it. Then quietly go off and improve their Apple maps until they've ironed out all the problems. Over the iOS 6 beta period they haven't really done much to maps except add more 3D buildings to more cities, and concentrated more on other things.

However Google Maps is not going to be easy to beat, they've had many years head start and some features such as StreetView are exclusive to them.

Doesn't work on mine either. Read that Streetview is blocked on iOS devices when using the mobile Maps site.

Can someone please explain to me how Doncaster is spelt Duncaster in iOS 6 maps?

Was the data from TomTom printed out and then typed back in?

I've no idea but that and some other things have got me thinking that maybe they used Siri's voice recognition tweaking some of the map app data for integration of both. I'm a Southerner so I'd say "Doncarster" would a local say "Duncaster"?

Spellings are one thing, just don't rely on maps to get you to Luton as you'll end up in an entirely different county all together

Upgraded to iOS 6 on Wednesday at 6pm.
Rolled back to iOS 5.1.1 on Thursday at 6pm.

Will upgrade when Apple fix Maps, or Google release their Maps app.

so i've been thinking:

how could it be that doncaster is spelt duncaster. other than it being hand typed?

it would also explain some of the strange locations if there was a typo in the coordinates, i wonder if you looked at something mislocated there would be small figure transposition or obvious typos.
it may also explain the lack of detail, because typing is hard.

could it be that they have just stolen the data and worked out some legal thing where if they just search on google maps and type it in to their database the data is in the public domain and they don't have to pay.

i would say doncar-ster. a local would say doncast-er or donny, or t'arndale.

The residence of Luton are very happy that they now live in Devon. House prices are rising and the warmer weather has already led to mass planting of palm trees.

At the moment you can access Google Maps using Safari. It's not as smooth as the app was, and you can't access Street View. You can get satellite imagery and directions though.
