Since upgrading my iOS this afternoon on my iPhone 4 on Orange, (am awaiting delivery of 5), I have been connected to the EE network. Why? And has this happened to anyone else?

The EE network isn't a new network as such anyway. It's just eh Orange and T-Mobile networks renamed.

As far as I understand it, they've updated the network profile (if that's the right term to use?) in iOS devices. Having said that, mine still say 'Orange' (4S and new iPad).

It is switching between EE / Orange / Orange T-Mobile depending on where I am. Odd.

EE, or Everything Everywhere is the parent company of Orange and T-Mobile. The Orange and T-Mobile networks are pretty much integrated now. So it is not at all unusual to see your phone attaching to either network.

I suspect as the network is upgraded over time all the cells will have a common identity.

Go to settings>general>about and after a few seconds it will tell you that there are new carrier settings. Accept them and it changes to EE. Here's mine -

Your not connected to any 4G network, they just renamed T-Mobile and Orange within the firmware ready for the launch. Your still on good old Orange lol

It was Apple that did the re-naming according to Plymouth Bloke so I'd say it will be up to Google to do it for Android phones...

Apparently, as someone already said, it's only iPhones at the moment as the carrier info is in the actual OS. I guess other phones will change with the eventual SIM updates.
Currently it seams T-Mobile users see EE all the time whereas Orange users only see EE when connected to an Orange cell, otherwise it still shows Orange...T-Mobile as usual. This is certainly the case with me.
Even when everyone sees EE I reckon you'll still be using Smartsignal (roaming) until they fully integrate the networks, it's just you won't be able to tell. Besides, it's works so well now that who cares! Plymouth will be able to confirm this... or shoot me down

A couple of regulars had persuaded me to hang around a while to advise of the EE changeover and 4G launch. However I'm still very much retired and only popping in every now and again. However if you like I'll disappear again?
