The iphone 5 should have been released last year as the 4S would have been a good alternative last year.

"Silver worn edges will give your phone character."
"Now, if over time, just the chamfered edge goes completely silver, it could actually look pretty cool. Just sayin..." Someone also seems to have sked for a swap, but after opening 8 boxes and finding scruffs on all 8 the shop was not allowed to open any more. I wonder if he chose one of the 9? Yipee for free bumpers and I wouldn't pay that much heed to Scruff Gate yet. And when all is said and done its only a phone. |

The maps thing is a strange one, Apple were always gonna eventually make there own. You don't need to use it like most people and the stocks app, there are plenty of other mapping app with Google Maps coming soon. |

Yeah, I don't get 5 / S II the spec comparison.
The 4S and S II had the same CPU (dual-core ARM Cortex-A9), but IIRC the GPU in the 4S was superior to the S II's (although the S II had more RAM). For the 5... As you say, benchmarks for the Apple A6 SoC in the 5 suggest it is actually very very good, even though it is "still just dual-core" as some people put it. There is more to it than simply the number of cores - the CPU in the Apple A6 uses newer and faster architecture plus has been custom-designed by Apple, tailored for the iPhone, instead of just using an effectively "off the shelf" ARM Cortex-A9. Maps though... The problem with other solutions is that none of them are integrated. Sure, you'll be able to get 3rd party map apps, and hopefully eventually a proper Google Maps app... But the default will always be the Apple maps. Whenever you use another map that ties in to the mapping services, it will always use the Apple maps. [A similar thing, but which annoys me far more, is the continued inability to choose a default browser. I hate Safari, and use Chrome (& before Chrome used iCab). Great, but... Still stuck with Safari whenever I click on a link in anything, etc.] |

Yeah the problem with any alternatives on iOS is that Apple dont let you choose the default. Its the same with browsers on iOS.

Because if you use another app that uses mapping or links to maps, it will use the system default, i.e. Apple Maps.
e.g. If you use Siri to find something on a map it will use Apple Maps. e.g. If you click on an address in an email it will use Apple Maps. etc. Same issue with the browser. You can use Chrome or iCab or Atomic all you want, but anytime you click on a link in an email or anything else it will open it in Safari only. That's why it would be nice to be able to choose a default. |
