My daughter had her S3 stolen last week on a night out.

It has since been blocked via the Ime, but as most are aware this will be sold abroad where the blocked Ime isn't an issue.

What I was wondering is, since I have the S3, what is the best tracking app? I've signed up for Samsung Dive which has a tracking facility, but I'm not sure how good it is.

Anyone with experience in this? It's too late for my daughter (or should I say me, as guess who will end up replacing the phone) but with hindsight I'd like to make mine as secure as possible.

I used Dive to find my S2 when I left it behind once, worked fine.

At the moment I also have Android Lost installed. There's also location history if you enable it on your google account.

And as a last resort, you can attempt to install Plan B, billed as "the 'find my phone' app that you download AFTER you lose your phone."

Also be sure to use the "Owner Info" option in settings->security to display an alternate number/email address on your lock screen in case its found by a nice person.

When I was using Android, I used Lookout.

I've always had cerberus on my android phones, if someone tries to unlock either the sim code or pattern code and gets it wrong it takes a picture (without sound) and sends it to my email address, same if the phone is stolen you can set it to take pictures or display an onscreen message or for an alarm to go off, if the sim is changed it takes pictures, you can remotely wipe the phone or track it on the cerberus website. You can also 'flash' cerberus same as a rom so deleting the app makes no difference or even just have it hidden in your app drawer and control it via sms.

That's very clever.

Nice, going to use that on the wife and daughter phones.

Samsung Dive is quite useful for

unlocking the screen when you forget your details
making the phone ring when it's down the back of the sofa
forwarding calls to your work number when you leave the phone at home
location wise I've always found it gets down to within a few houses, try it and see. Obviously stay away from the Wipe and Lock my mobile options but you can play with the ring, call forwarding and tracking ones without doing any harm

+1 for Cerebus. Very much like the iGotYa app for iPhone.

I use Lost Android but I can’t tell you what’s it like or how well it performs until I lose the phone, hopefully I won’t ever be able to come back on this.

Karpasky anti virus has a built in tracker which you can send a text message for it to either track phone (will email you map location), wipe phone, lock phone and it will also let you know of the new phone number if a new SIM is inserted.

I get Karpasky free through Barclays and I guess other banks do it.
