Reading the reviews of the peter davison era on here makes me nostalgic as this was the period I began watching who and remember him as the doctor I'd like to rewatch them again some I have never seen again since I was 9 or 10! Is there plans to repeat classic episodes (eg the whole peter davison era!!!) next year for the anniversary?. I cant afford them all on dvd!

No detail on what they're planning yet.

I'd love to see a "vote" where fans can pick their top story from each Doctor and have those shown - even better to have them cleaned-up (not mucked about with, just picture/sound quality and properly upscaled - so that they look "fresh")

PS - don't know if you've been watching but Dave has shown every Red Dwarf series in the run-up to the brand new one (can't wait ) Best of all, in true RD tradition, they've shown them in reverse order - which made me laugh.

Yeah, that would be cool.
I don't like it when they try and update effects too much, it makes other elements seem dated rather than letting the viewer immerse themselves in the classic experiene.

By doing it that way round, people approach the new series remembering how funny it was in the early days rather than gradually getting bored towards the end of september

I'm sure there will be and yes they may even do a Vote for your favourite story or Doctor countdown.

We may get the "first" showing of those recently found episodes during the Anniversary year.

I'm wondering if we will get some Red Button channels dedicated to showing Classic episodes in November 2013.

There's always a worry about cross-contaminating C20 DW with C21 DW. Mention of "wobbly sets", etc, contaminates the brand. A shame, as I see it far more as "impeccable CGI" contaminating the brand ...

There isnt a snowballs chance of that happenning while the DVds make money. I would rather Watch aired them instead of the countless repeats of current who. Im sure many fans are sick of DT and MS episodes keep appearing.

If I was you id check stageVU or dailymotion as they have many classic episodes on there. They seem to be imune from takedown procedures like youtube are.

Not sure if it's been mentioned before but Virgin Media have a selection of classic Doctor Who stories to watch. They're 'On Demand' under "What We're Watching" - "Ultimate Doctor Who". These stories are still available until October 31st:

The Time Meddler
The Seeds Of Death
Planet Of The Daleks
City Of Death
Caves Of Androzani
Vengeance On Varos
Ghostlight
Doctor Who: The Movie
Doctor Who: The Ultimate Guide (A 2005 documentary about the new series).
New Who: Series 1, 2 and 3

(available until September 30th)
Series 4
Waters Of Mars
The End of Time

Personally I see little point in the BBC broadcasting old episodes of Doctor Who on BBC1 or 2 because most of the surviving stories have been released on DVD. While not every fan can afford to buy them then most of them are relatively cheap nowadays. I would far rather that the money was used instead to make some new Doctor Who material or perhaps another spinoff series using some of the characters from the classic series. Or better still - another adventure starring Paul McGann.

Perhaps the money for these things comes from different budget streams. Such that doing it or not would have no effect on new episode or spin-off development budget one way or another.

I think it would be odd if, while celebrating 50 years of the show, they don't broadcast any good examples of the very thing they're celebrating. More than just clips etc.

There is a possible commercial reason to show some old serials - good advertising for the DVDs.

Funny thing is, out of the 6 to 8,000,000 people who watch the show these days, probably only a few thousand would be classed as "fans" - but many of the rest will watch something on TV with "Doctor Who" in the title.

I'd compare this to people who'll buy a "Greatest Hits" CD but don't want to go and buy everything the band ever recorded.

Not too sure what you mean Steven. You don't have to pay extra. It's free with your Virgin Media package.

Blimey. Thats a goodly set of serials to watch there!. If you're on Virgin Media. Which I'm not. (what you get for being a cheapskate Freeview bod).

Not bad quality control by the Virgin people.
