Carmen not Clara?

Just re-watching a bit of Asylum and at the start the Doctor calls her 'Carmen' after the music she's listening to

The 'Clara' rumours began after someone heard them on set didn't they?

So could they have misheard 'Clara' for 'Carmen'?

The music she was playing was from Bizet's Carmen - he was joking.

{edit - sorry, misread your post - not what you were asking}

I doubt it.

The name would have been overheard on a number of occasions by many different people and while I have seen this suggestion before I've not seen it from anyone who claimed to hear it on set.

Maybe, if she returns as a human, the Doctor won't recognise her but she recognises him and says her name is Clara just so he doesn't know she was a Dalek/her. Might explain it.

Even if he was heard calling her "Clara" on set, that doesn't man it's her character's name - her character may have "borrowed" someone's ID badge or just be sitting in a van with "Clara's Shoes" written in the side and he assumed it was hers (he thought Amy was a real copper in 11th Hour) - or she have lied about her name for some reason immediately before that line was overheard.

When I was a kid, we used to call old women "Clara Cluck" - cos they reminded us of chickens.

Just makes me wonder whether he'll go back, rescue her, then say "Well, you're a Dalek, how about calling you Carmen after that music you like?"

Erm, of course, why wouldn't he call her Oswin...

...erm... ha

I watched it again last night as well. Bit puzzled where the music was coming from in the first place as Oswin was dreaming her existance. So why would the Daleks, the Doc and the Ponds hear the tune through her dreams??

The same way they heard her human voice and not a Dalek one. All radio transmission was being digitally created as a result of her mind being linked to the Dalek network. Her mind controlled the sound that was created through the speakers.

She was the Entertainment Officer (Junior) on the Alaska and would have had knowledge of a database of Music the ship had.

We saw that even as a Dalek she could still access the computer systems of the Alaska as she talked to the Doctor and Amy though it when they were on the Escape Pod.

So at some point she had downloaded some/all of the music from the Alaska to her Dalek hardrive and was actually transmiting it over the Asylum comunication system.

Ok, that could work too

If her human voice was actually coming from her mind rather than her larynx, the music would come from the same place - just a memory and not a recording of any sort.

I can't be bothered to check but if if anyone is interested it might be worth seeing if we hear anything else over the speaker - such as her moving around or closing the oven door. If so, everything the Doctor heard came from her mind - none of it was physically produced (unless there's something we haven't been told - like that never really being her inside the Dalek).

I wonder what "Sorry, hit the wrong switch" was supposed to represent, when she was broadcasting Carmen instead of her voice..
