Lost You Tube on iPad3
Franglais
22-09-2012
Updated my iPad3 last night for the iOS6.

Seems everything is ok except You Tube's now gone. Can't find it in the App Store. Most strange.

Anybody else had this problem?

Yes, it's a google app so apple have got rid!. You just have to download the one for the iPhone as there isn't one for the iPad...but they say they are working on it!

Thanks Supercell.

Just downloaded the iPhone version. Weirdly the page won't rotate.

It's different from what I've been used to but, of course , I've lost all my favourite vid clips.

Why do they "invite" you to log on when it's already freely available?

'Got rid' isn't accurate. Apple had a 5 year agreement with YouTube to provide the app as part of iOS. Those 5 years have now passed and Google have decided not to offer it for renewal, preferring to create their own app instead.

It's primarily about adverts. Apple never allowed adverts, which YouTube's business model has grown so dependant on so having such a large number of users out of their primary revenue stream was far from an ideal situation for Google.

Google's own YouTube app (iPhone only at the moment) is far superior to the previous app.

And, although there is not (yet) a YouTube app for the iPad, you can still use the YouTube website... which is far superior to the now-removed YouTube app.
