Echostar HDS-600RS Missing series Recordings
Does anyone else have a problem with the Echostar not recording series as it should.
mine seems to do the first few episodes in a series then just give up. In the recording schedule the series is still there but the dates and times are just --/--/-- and when i look on the guide the episode is not coloured in red. However if i try to record the episode it won't let me and says it is already set to record. it doesn't record it though. this has happened to me a few times now and makes me nervous about trusting it to record. Mine is also quite noisy compared to my old Humax freeview box. I don't know if this is normal or there is something loose in it. cheers |

Mine is also quite noisy compared to my old Humax freeview box. I don't know if this is normal or there is something loose in it. cheers click settings and then ' technical info ' and then ' version info ' if Software version is not 123R then you need to update. Please Note I am not sure if the new version is available over-the-air (satellite) because I cant check on my machine but you can still get it - go to http://www.myechostar.com/Products/C...Downloads.aspx save the file at Product Software (123R) http://www.myechostar.com/~/media/My..._download.ashx and place this file on a blank USB stick and then plug in the USB stick into the box and follow the on screen instructions . There was issues with series recordings on previous software versions hence why its vital that you have 123R. Its not 100% accurate but its far better than it used to be. Please note anytime you see --/--/-- that specific entry has to be deleted as you have found out it will not allow you to record that named entry. ----------- A noisy machine is a different issue because you have not made it clear if its a fan noise or a hard drive noise - either way in a normal room and your at viewing distance from your TV and Echostar then you should not hear anything. |

thanks chaps.
It is already on version 123R. I think it came with that version to be honest. its only a couple of months old. It is the fan that is quite noisy and sometimes it stays on for a good 5 minutes after the box shuts down so I guess that means it is overheating. its not in an enclosed space and its not exactly warm at the moment. It is weird because sometimes it doesn't seem noisy at all and other times it really annoys me. Maybe it's just me. I am very sensitive to noises |

27-06-2012 was the date 122R came out 10-07-2012 was the date 123R came out so I doubt it had that software ' out of the box ' as there was not enough time.
You may have the update now but I bet it never came like that out of the box. While the software made certain claims some users were very skeptical and were covering their backs and they were removing all the series links and then putting them back in again and perhaps that is why you are getting caught out. I know since I removed all the entries and then installed 123R via USB stick its been very accurate so perhaps you should do the same. |

maybe it installed it when I first turned it on. I might reset it back to its default settings and see if that helps.
thanks for taking the time to reply |

I use my box mainly just to record Radio 4 and Radio 4 Extra so most of my series links are daily links and the only time I see ' --/--/-- ' is when a series has ended.
with the older version of the software it would record one or two days and then just give up so I had to constantly check what it was doing. it also had a really annoying habit that if a film was split in two with the news { which you see a lot on Five } it would record the first segment but then completely miss the second segment - I have never seen it do that since 123R was installed. Good luck with your factory reset. |

Seems to be behaving itself now. Just goes to show they aren't joking when they tell you to reset to factory settings after applying a firmware patch!

Incorrect, Echostar had all remaining stock at their place and at the major distributors manually updated prior to sale, so any units purchased in the last couple of months should be up to date. They had to do this for the Olympic channels. An indication of this is two 'sealed' stickers on the outer box.
The OP now believes that the box updated itself when he bought it which would appear to rule out your guess work. Its not clear where they bought the box from so you are making a lot of assumptions. do you actual own a Echostar HDS-600RS ? |

well if they were so well organised its strange that they removed features such as full manual record which used to be possible but was removed as they felt no one wanted to have it.{ which was confirmed by Echostar }

It is conceivable that if the OP bought the box prior to this, or from one of the majors like amazon or richer sounds etc then it wouldn't have had the update, but I was responding to your doubts over any box having the latest software. Organisation has no baring on why certain functionality was removed; that was a decision they made, not an oversight. Nope, afraid I don't own the box, so I must be wrong, right? |
