Windows 7 yes - don't fully understand the second question? I open up my laptop/notebook, wait a few minutes for everything to appear then double click on internet explorer?

With Internet Explorer open go to tools, internet options, Advanced and click 'restore advanced settings'. Close Internet Explorer, open it again ..... any difference ?

I found it and it blumming worked!!!!! Thank you so so much, now I have to find a way of getting a refund for the PC Cleaner I bought this morning in desperation and it didn't work on this. Will this solution you gave me work in the future if it happens again? Again thanks so much

It should not return. There is a box in advanced settings which was probably ticked, 'display a notification about every script error'. The default setting is for it to be unticked so clicking restore advanced settings unticked it.
Be careful about pc 'cleaners', you don't need them and some can cause problems if messing about with the registry.
There is a program that a lot of people including myself use and it is free, Ccleaner.

Thank you, I'll make sure to keep this info safe. Yes I wonder if I will be able to get a refund, I'm not hopeful!!! I'll have a look at the Ccleaner. Thanks again

This won't add to the thread but when I saw the words "syntax error" it brought back instant memories back to the 80s with a Commodore 64!
