Clearly she is only here for the season but judging by tonight you fear the worst.

Might cowell have to step in and do a cheryl cole x factor usa type decision

that wasn't just simon`s decision, fox agreed that cheryl wasn't working out. itv would have to agree if simon wanted that and they weren't interested when he expressed his concerns about barlow.

What annoys me is yet again we have a judge who wasn't there for any of the auditions.

Actually Nicole is doing OK so far - if you saw her on X-factor USA - she is so much better than I feared! I just wish she would have said what she said off camera to one of the groups to their faces!

Nicole is just bland. I'm sure she is a lovely person but thats what she is, bland.

Its a big shame Mel B was tied to the Aussie version this year because X Factor UK needed her. Hope its true they will sign her up for 2013.

Wrong choice of judge imo and I wonder if she only got this gig as a softener for losing the XFUSA job.

She was bland and 'meh' on the US show and she just isn't right for the UK version.

they didnt have anyone better though did they?

Dannii turned him down and i think a few other people did as well

Me too! I thought her criticism of their performance was good but as you say, she should have said it to their faces.

I think Nicole just seems on her own. I like her but there's little interaction between her and the others. I know this is nothing new - as much as people loved the peak years you've got to admit there was little to no chemistry between Dannii and Cheryl either but at that point it didn't matter because you had Simon and Louis there. -- This is what's missing now.

I like the way Gary's coming across now and as daft as it sounds - I like where he's sitting. He's like the Dad of the panel and I like the way he's leading them. I don't like arguments (particularly scripted ones ) but there does need to be some opposing opinions for the panel to be interesting.

At this point, I'd rather see Gary, Louis, Simon and Tulisa because I think you'd have an interesting chemistry between the three fellas; particularly Gary and Simon, with Tulisa working well with Louis.

Nicole's faux shocked face is annoying me. She is nice but bland. Her very sound constructive criticism should have been given to the auditionees not the panel.

I don't think they'll move Nicole mid show, however never say never. As the show went on, Nicole started growing on me. I mean she's not as animated as Kelly or as direct as Mel B, but she's doing her. It would be stupid to replace her mid show as whoever replaces her would have to mentor people that they would not neccessarily want to put through.

Yes, as you say, ITV hires the judges, not Syco. So its their decision really.

I think she'll be much better on the live shows if she wants to keep the job. People are forgetting that she is pretty much responsible for 1D and Rebecca Ferguson.

the last thing this panel needs is even less stability!!

i agree - she definately should have said that TO the act. it was great criticism. precise, technical, well thought out expressed and right to the core. if she's more vocal like that then i can see me loving her!

i agree with a lot of this aswell.
was it just me or was gary carying that panel last night? for a good half hour or so it seemed like there was no other judge there. he was definately the leader, the most upfront and vocal, the funniest and heck even liveliest!.....now i love gary, but that's not exactly usual, is it?? perhaps it was something to do with the seating arrangement as you say, but i definately felt that he stood out the most as a judge. if that's the case then i hope they keep that arrangement.

yes, leading the show into ratings oblivion. there will be more screen presence in simon`s brief phone calls to the judges tonight, than barlow has demonstrated throughout the whole series.

No she isn't. 1D would have been put together with or without Nicole, groups get put together every year and that year would have been no different.

The producers would have all that planned and just got Nicole to say it, like they do every year.

As for Rebecca, I don't know how she is responsible for that? Yeah she was supportive, but Simon and the other judges loved her too.

Anyway they shouldn't replace her, she isn't doing anything wrong. She seems nice and hopefully she will have bonded with the panel alot more in time for the live shows.

i agree with both these posts.
i don't know much about nicole, and she does seem quite, but i'm willing to give her a chance. it's a little unfair to judge when we've seen so little of her...like others have said, if she comes out of more of that type of criticism (but to their faces) then i think she could be a really good judge.
re: the seating arrangments, i also preferred it. it gave a feeling of unity and made the panel gel more. and gary was by far the stand out judge for me last night too.

I don't think were seeing enough of Nicole to be able to judge her as a judge. At the moment we are getting Tulisa rammed down our throats.......ahem...... All this 'Tulisa love' is damn bizarre, they did the same with Cheryl Cole and Danni got sidelined. But the public know whats right.

I find Nicole bland too, shame Mel B was unable to take that spot on he panel this year. I read that having quit AGT Sharon Osbourne wants her XF joh back, and Louis's really keen. I'd like to see Sharon back as she was a fan of mine when I auditioned in 2007

Sharon Osbourne has no relevance today and would be a backwards step

I think we're probably seeing enough of Nicole and indeed too much for my liking. She's way too insipid for this show. who would have thought a pussy cat doll would be so timid and bland.

I really would like someone with some bite and balls. If the producers are so insistent an American must be on the panel, which they seem to be, why not Beth Ditto or Pink or Brittany here instead of the American version. Whoever as long as they have something to say that is interesting.

I'm sure that, during the auditions, the clip of Nicole's shocked face from when Zoe got angry was recycled for a couple of other performances.
