Bit of an exaggeration there

You've evidently never heard ANY blues songs then, or Leonard Cohen, Radiohead, Nick Cave, Jeff Buckley, Nick Drake, Joy Division, Bob Dylan, Tom Waits. Admittedly, the pop charts are not exactly full of these artists, but they've all had very long and successfuil careers, long after the flavour of the month happy clappy artists have faded into obscurity.
I don't think X factor is the right show for Lucy Spraggans though. She's a proper artist and won't shine unless she's performing her own material.
