That's a puzzling one ! Not Mary Pickford , Mabel Norman and so on. Are there any clues ?

She doesn't look as if she played a vamp. Looks as if her hair is fair or red. Is she British ?

There is nothing, the card has a plain back, it came with other postcards of actors and actresses.

Are you sure it's not a regular photograph of an every day, albeit very pretty lady?

She looks vaguely familiar. European rather than American, I think.

Do you recognise any of the others? Are they the same sort of postcards?

I agree, looks European. Almost certainly 1930's, but as others have said, it may not be an actress. It could just be a portrait photo, it was very popular to have that done in those days for a loved one.
My grandfather carried one of my grandmother when he was sent overseas, not entirely dissimilar to the one posted.

She could be a theatre actress rather than a film actress maybe ?

I think it is a very young pre-Hollywood Greta Garbo.

She looks familiar but I couldn't work out who she is. The nose and mouth are like Greta Garbo's so maybe it is, her.I just googled ' images of young Greta Garbo' and if you do and scroll down I think it's clear that the postcard is, of Greta.

I think you've Sherlocked it Summeriris !

I don't think it's Garbo. Greta's lips were much thinner and the shape of the eyes are different. I think the girl in the pic does resemble an actress named Marian Marsh.

What's the difference between American vs. European "looks" given that probably 99% of the classic American film starlets were of European descent?

It's the native language that shapes the musculature of the face not the genetics.

The pictures I saw of the young Greta Garbo show a very different Greta than I expected to see. The resemblance to the woman on the postcard was very striking.

It would be interesting though if someone found a link to the actual photograph/postcard.

Not sure that genetics doesn't shape facial musculature at all. The genes PRDM16, PAX3, TP63 affect shape. Structure is affected by C5 and COLI7A1.

I don't think it's Garbo but ultimately it's all subjective.

Not Greta Garbo. My aunt was a huge Garbo fan and had a wall photo gallery from when Garbo was a kid to the peak of her fame.

As a kid.
As a teenager.
As a twentysomething.
Another twentysomething.

Different nose (the woman has a snub nose and Garbo has a narrow and slightly-aquiline nose, and it's impossible to lengthen a snub nose if plastic surgery existed in their time)
different hair texture (the woman has fine hair and Garbo has thicker hair)
different eye shape (the woman has slightly droopy eyes while Garbo has low-lidded eyes)
different mouth (Garbo's mouth is much wider than the woman's)
different face shape (the woman has a square-ish/oval-ish face and Garbo clearly has a diamond-shaped face).
age difference (if it's a 1930s photo, then it can't be Garbo because she was already in her mid-20s, very slim (she was considered 'fat' when she first arrived in Hollywood, which pissed her off enough to go on a serious diet) and already famous, thanks to Flesh and the Devil, released in 1926, and even more so due to Anna Christie, in 1930, for which she was nominated for an Oscar as Best Actress. Also by 1930s, Garbo has already developed her signature look, which she's still best known as. The woman in photo seems in her late teens (19? 20?) as she seems to still have puppy fat.)
The mole (the woman has a mole beneath her right cheek and Garbo never had any, according to her childhood photos).

Not Garbo, I'm afraid. (I'll ask my aunt and parents as they were serious film buffs in their time.)
