I currently have a Sky and I am thinking about changing to Youview, can anyone tell me any information about it regarding pay tv etc.

You can pay for Sky Now on the Youview box. No idea what that includes except to know it is of no interest to me.

Not true. You can subscribe to Sky Now using a vanilla Youview box.

I have a Humax YouView box and at the moment the Live TV element of the Now TV service isn't available.

I have the Humax box on talktalk tv and live sky channels are not available as the Humax is not physically capable of multicast. It doesn't even get the iptv channels either.

The Huewai box however can recieve the sky channels but good luck getting one as theyre out of stock from what i've been told.

It says on their website that they do have the live channels though.

It is correct that the Youview Humax boxes do not support live IP channels, and will not support the premium talktalk channels.

I would stay well well away from Youview until mid next year at the earliest. Well to many unknowns about what is actually going to be offered and not.

Right so will the Humax box ever be able to support IP channels once it gets an update or is it physically impossible for it to do anymore than it currently does?

TalkTalk's own box obviously supports them because they're actively selling subscriptions to the boosts via their website. What does their box do that Humax doesn't?

Is the reason BT haven't released pay TV channel details because the Humax box can't handle them?

I think everyone who was on humax trial is being moved over to the huawei boxes. I believe the humax boxes were used to see how od would cope with speeds under 5mbs. As i'm getting 9mbs i'd imagine i'd get moved over to Huawei box. We shall see if not then bt gain a new customer.

Humax box was rushed and i wouldn't be surprised if youview get into hot water as i heard a document clearly stated all freeview enabled boxes made after April 2011 must support iptv and multicast.
I'm sure someone will correct me if i'm wrong.

I believe it was Freeview HD-branded boxes tested after this date had to get the Connect TV channels. However, as far as I know this does not apply to the YouView boxes as they are not branded Freeview HD.
No support is needed for Multicast over other and above live IPTV signals, it's an internal BT process for broadcasting the same IPTV signal to up to five households to make better use of capacity.

I'm not sure of the live Sky channels being rebroadcast by TalkTalk but as regards the live Sky Movies channels from Now TV, Sky is not rebroadcasting them via YouView. According to its website "Sky Movies Pass live channels on PC/Mac/Xbox 360 only".

Why oh why oh why do people keep mentioning that boxes don't support multicast?

Any client device wouldn't know, or care. The task of multi-casting is left to the nodes/routers within the network - as far as the client is concerned, its just receiving a video stream.

Totally agree, a DS myth has arisen that multicast is another name for live IPTV channels and it's a hard myth to destroy!

Because Humax themselves have said the box physically can not support multicast.
Answer this then my neighbour has talktalks Huawei box he gets multicast channels , i have Humax box which does not get multicast channels. We are both on the same exchange.
I see what you're saying about the network but the proof is there that the exchange is multicast enabled , it's the Humax box itself that does not get multicast.

I'm not even going to bother anymore all i've tried to do is give information and help.
As i've said time and time again the information has come from experience , also from Humax, youview and talktalk themselves.
They must be wrong and you must be right then.

You're confusing multicast to IPTV/streaming:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multicast

By your logic, my mobile phone, Xbox 360, TiVo and WDTV player all support multicast because they can all receive streamed video.

It has nothing to do with the client devices themselves. They can either receive and play a video stream, or not. Doesn't matter what the source is or if how the network is configured.

As for the Humax boxes - perhaps they are running different version of the software? And don't TalkTalk use their own Content Delivery Network, independent from BT?

And I talk from experience as well, 20+ years configuring networks.

Oh, can I just make one thing clear... Multicasting -

Multicast is only a way of delivering content over a providers internet network. A users box does not need to support this facility, it only needs to recieve it.

The only requirement is, on the BT and TalkTalk network, you'll need to be on their new fiber network to recieve Multicasting services.”

That sounds quite logical about the different software but I was led to believe that all the YouView boxes are running the same software, with an update coming in October?

This whole thing gets more confusing by the day!

A good way to nail this on the head is if there are any people out there using a TalkTalk branded box. The current software version on the Humax box is 7.10.0 + 1.0.16. Could anybody confirm what it says for TalkTalk?

I'm extremely appreciative of all the help you've given the forum and did not mean to cause offence. Everyone agrees with your feedback that the Huawei can receive the IPTV channels but the Humax can't. I think the confusion is what these channels are being called - as per BigFoot 87's above post. But I appreciate that Humax and TalkTalk may have called the channels this. As we know, the Humax can't receive any IPTV channels including the Connect TV channels (Racing UK, CCTV, etc).

Apologies if i seemed a bit ott its just frustrating getting given so many different reasons and information lol.
Once bigfoot explained it it became clear it's humax and tt who are wording everything wrong.
