Could Melanie Masson produce the best sing off since Ruth Lorenzo?
I can really imagine this girl to absolutely do a Ruth if she was ever in the sing off. I think she's the only one who'd come close to blowing people away and wowing people in the sing off. I think we can agree that there hasn't been a 'oh my god' sing off that everyone talked about since Queen Ruth's.
If she's through to the lives that is. What are your thoughts on Melanie? |

I don't know. My favourite sing off it actually "Stop Crying Your Heart Out" by Rachel Adedeji in season 6.
I think they do have a lot of similarities between them, but I think part of what people loved about Purple Rain was the shock value. No one had pegged Ruth as this 'Rock Chick' before that point, whereas we already know that's the kind of music Melanie excels at. So I don't think she'll manage to pull off a sing off of quite that magnitude. |

Melanie's a breath of fresh air. Ok, old school rock perhaps, but it's a long time since I've heard anyone sing a Jains Joplin track so fantastic. Ruth was amazing, Leona even better, Cher different and doing very well and Little Mix filling a gap in-today’s market. (You've guessed it; female singers do it for me). I would pay money to see Melanie and whilst it will possibly never happen (Ella Henderson – will win is my bet) wouldn’t it would great to see a revival of belting bluesy rock chic’s in the charts,

I couldn't STAND Ruth Lorenzo, just hated her voice!
So far I like Melanie Masson, but I'm waiting to see what she'll be like on the 'lives'. xx |

The last amazing sing-off performance we had was a toss up between Treyc's "One Night Only" and Katie Waissel's "Save Me From Myself" from season 7.

Melanie is amazing singer.. no doubt... reminds me of Janis Joplin....but is she a one trick pony !
There is no doubt she will make the live shows....but when that starts... is she going to want to screech her way through everything..... it will be the downfall of her before long....is she capable of different styles of singing. |

Ruth was very bland and forgettable until her sing off. 'Take My Breath Away' was so weak and lifeless, and her bootcamp/auditions were very mediocre. Absolutely NOBODY expected her to go out there and start belting out Purple Rain, and there was a massive surge of interest in her after the performance. I remember coming on the forums after it and seeing every thread titled "Can Ruth now win the show??", "Ruth Lorenzo - Greatest shock in XF history??", "Is Ruth now the one to watch??", there was so much buzz around her after that performance and it catapulted her from fodder to a contender in a matter of minutes. It's one of the most memorable performances of the show and it'd take something very special to equal it.

Yeah, the thing about Ruth was that nobody expected her to come out with something so brilliant. Melanie, we know, has an incredible voice as she showed it off immediately at her first audition. So, whilst it wouldn't be as surprising as the Ruth sing off, Melanie would still destroy anyone else in the bottom two. |

Unpopular opinion alert, but I actually thought Cher's Everytime sing off was very touching.
