http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1764234/

This was interesting for two reasons, one it scored quite highly on the IMDB and two, it became obvious within the first 10 minutes that it is trying to be tarrantino, goodfellas, casino - dialogue heavy and uber-violent

The scene and the script have a tarrantino quality about them, along with a great cast and great acting.

Problem is, more than a few people walked out - not enough for them? I'm guessing "too much talking, not enough action" - this film will not appeal to everyone...

I saw Mark Kermode review it on BBC, he said it was absolutely excellent.

Planning to see this. It's had rave reviews. Maybe those who walked out didn't actually read the reviews, which make it clear what kind of film it is, and praise the quality of the acting. Some people seem quite obstinate in ignoring even good reviews so they can claim they made up their own minds. Which I suppose those people did.

I've only seen the trailer. Is it supposed to be a gritty crime drama?

From what I saw of Pitt it seemed like a Burn After Reading type film
He just didn't come across as a serious assasin. Sounded more like a buffoning hitman

This may help.

I loved this film.

I thought the ending was one of the best I've seen.

The quote will go down in cinematic history!!!

I thought it was great too.

First film with Gandolfini in where I thought "ok, this guy can act"

Solid movie. Yes there's echo's of Tarantino, it's no bad thing. The dialogue seems kind of real. What you'd expect those guys to talk like.

Absolutely disappointed by this film. I expected a witty, violent crime film, but got a dialouge heavy and poorly structured film. The trailer was misleading (not enough to get me in the cinema though..).

^ With you, extremely disappointing and terribly bland film. Major step down from Jesse James.

I didn't enjoy the film. Agree with the previous two posts. The trailer was misleading, i found it poorly paced and was expecting it to kick into life . . and then it ended.

I was bored and disappointed.

Presumably you are aware that there were films with both dialogue and violence before Tarantino and Scorsese came along, right?

I thought it was a pretty good film, although the message about corporate America was laid on a bit thick. I heard that the director had to cut down his original running time considerably so this probably contributed to it.

The cast were universally excellent. And what a line-up! Pitt, Gandolfini, Liotta, Richard Jenkins etc. Brad Pitt is doing some of his best work at the moment and to think that I had him down as a lightweight pretty boy when I first saw him acting.

The film doesn't quite hang together but the individual scenes are brilliant. Oh, and Christ knows why they changed the title from Cogan's Trade for the UK release.

It's based on a novel by George V Higgins, who wrote a number of noir-ish thrillers featuring a lot of dialogue in a setting of Irish-American gangster culture.

Love your username BTW. Grosse Point Blank is one of my favourite films - best soundtrack evah!

Who cares? Was I supposed to compose a list or something?
