Marked on samba content, Shawn was overmarked by about five marks per judge. What happened?

They've decided to get pretty weird next week. One of the three dances that each couple will do:
Caveman Hustle for Melissa and Tony Knight Rider Bhangra for Shawn and Derek Big Top Jazz for Apolo and Karina Espionage Lindy Hop for Emmitt and Cheryl Surfer Flamenco for Kelly and Val Of the other two dances, one will be a Michael Jackson song and one will be an unlearned ballroom or Latin dance. |

Very inconsistent marking. Val said something pertinent in his interview OTRC. He said he sticks to the rules because he doesn't have the fanbase Derek does, so can't take the risks he does. That Derek knows the fans back him or words to that effect. In other words Derek does what he likes and gets away with it.

To be fair the show has gone for more entertainment factor than ballroom. I'm one who defends content in the dance vs entertainment but viewers outside like more entertainment. I don't blame Derek his gone for the viewers rather than the content. After all is a competition and is by the public votes.
And even if we don't like it the casual viewers do. You just have to go to You Tube to see that Derek choreography hit a lot of viewers. Not only his fans. And for people saying that he always get the best dancers, I don't think it's true, because, Shawn Elizabeth, Jeniffer Graph, Maria Menuno and even Ricki lake weren't good but he was genius disguised their weakness. I bet he would it make a great choreography for Kelly and Sabrina too. Whether people don't like him, the true is he is a genius, he think outside the box. and for this kind of show that is what you need to do. I got a lot of respect for him seems he is the only one who even consider bring Bob Fose to his routines. He spend his time reading and learning about all sort of dances, and give respect to all the choreographers around the world. Doesn't matter the scores the judges gave to the couples at the end of the day is the public who decided the winner. Sabrina is an example of that, perfect scores look what happened. Bristol Palin was low score and look she knocked out Helio Castonova. Emitt smith isn't a good dancer but he has his big fan base that he might go to the final again. So if a good dancer is going to be outlast by a mediocre dancer not matter how fair you play, then go wild and go for the casual viewers who has the last say. |

Fantastic result. Giles was so overhyped.
Hope Melissa and Kelly make the final!!!! Don't want Shawn and Derek to win. They keep breaking the rules and getting away with it. |

Thanks for the results, great news. Bet Gille's smug bubble was well and truly burst, haven't watched elimination but won't mind watching it now. What a bizarre mash up it is next week, by the looks of things, the mind boggles

![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks for all the links everyone. ![]() What a bizarre bunch of dances next week I assume the combinations were pulled out of the hat.Feel a bit sorry for Len & Bruno - twice in one week theyve sat through dances to Adele 'Rumour has it' (tango then paso), and this week they're going to get double helpings of Kylie doing the Locomotion as she scheduled for the Wembley show on Saturday. |

He makes a good point. I've never thought about it from the other dancers' point of view. They end up looking pedestrian by comparison while everyone bows down to the king of choreo. At the same time, if Derek knows the fans will back him, I don't blame him for taking risks (which are less risky for him, of course!). If the judges took a harder line with him, it would help, but then the production probably wants his choreo because it's so popular and entertaining! Hmmm - it's hard to balance 'fair' with 'most entertaining show'
![]() Wow! I haven't watched all the dances yet - and I would have rather seen off Emmit than Gilles - but I'd say that was a result! .....almost friends with the American voters again ... (still smarting about Sabrina ![]() )Quote:

Derek does have a flair and takes risks which I am sure draws in a lot of the audience. I know they have to try and keep reinventing the wheel to keep the show from stagnating. Your right lady l, It is more of an entertainment show now, rather than just ballroom dancing. I suppose you have to move with the times, but as fridgey says it's hard to balance fair and most entertaining. Think it has swung a little too far with the entertaining. Would like to see a balance if that is possible entertaining and great dancing. It has been good to see all the pros this season when they have been allowed to have for the majority decent dancers as partners. Some have risen to the challenge and some have fallen short. It kind of confirms for me why certain pros have been given certain celebs in past series. I can see it might not be a level playing field but then that's true of life too. |

Derek has shown that he is completely arrogant and will just do what he wants and his fans will make up any excuses for him. Carrie Ann and Bruno will just give him a great score just for showing up. None of the other pros can get away with breaking the rules because The judges will mark them down.
I'm not looking forward to these new dances they have been given. I would rather see them performing the Argentine Tango. |

My thoughts...
WOW! 1. Gilles & Peta - QS - Finally someone does a decent dance and with so much content! Loved it! 10/10 2. Gilles & Peta - Salsa - So much content! I loved it! 9.5/10 1. Melissa & Tony QS - Just love her commitment. Another dance with loads of content. Loved it! 10/10 2. Melissa & Tony - Paso - Fabulous! 10/10 2. Shawn & Derek - Samba - Choreography was out of this world, but it wasn't a Samba! 8/10 LIKED 1. Shawn & Derek - VW - Not soft enough and hardly in hold. 8/10 1. Apolo & Karina - Tango - Technique suffered because of the gimmicks. 8.5/10 1. Kirstie & Maks - VW - Her best dance of the series. 8.5/10 2. Emmitt & Cheryl - Salsa - Good, but not great. 9/10 1. Emmitt & Cheryl - VW - So smooth, but there was a blip. 8.5/10 1. Kelly & Val - VW - She is so impressive, but it was a bit frantic and there was a lift. 8.5/10 2. Kelly & Val - Jive - Great choreography! 9/10 NOPE 2. Kirstie & Maks - Paso - Loved the wings and angel theme, but it was awful. 7/10 2. Apolo & Karina - Jive - A bit too loose for me and the guys were performing at a noticeably lower level than Karina. 8/10 The first dances were far too short and the music seemed too fast for every routine. Don't see the point of doing two dances of very different lengths and speeding up the music to fit in everything. I think some of the pros are putting far more content in their routines (e.g. Tony and Peta) and some pros coped better than others choreographing and dancing with a 2nd pro. I hope Melissa wins and my second choices were Kelly and Gilles, but Gilles has gone now (I realise I am in the minority in liking him). I love Shawn, but I have gone off Derek this season and I wish there was a season without Derek and Maks. They need to move on and do their own thing now.Thrilled to bits that Kirstie has finally gone out. |

A classic moment last night was when they were announcing the new dances, Derek looked completely perplexed and Tom quipped "what...Mr. Choreography!"

This is Derek last season. He is moving on to other things. He was invited to do things for Hollywood and also he is going to be in a new movie, directed by Ortega.
So don't worry now he won't be on DWTS anymore. And val didn't choreograph the jive was Louis.

Derek might go on the UK SCD with Cheryl Cole. I heard he wanted to win one of our series as a challenge. I think if it is true and he does do it Craig will mark him down for breaking numerous rules
![]() The last time The Sun claimed the BBC offered Derek a contract to do SCD, Derek said the whole thing was news to him and he'd never even been contacted. I'll bet the same is true of this latest claim. |

Didn't Cheryl win Ballroom competitions when she was younger? There are ringers and then there are RINGERS!
Yes she was a ballroom dancer as a child, Kimberley said Cheryl is giving her tips of how to improve her dances. Cherly had Derek dancing with her on her Parachute video, think that's how they maybe met. Look away none Chezza fans. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-AWoZmAxKxg Think they would have to offer Derek a bit incentinve to go on SCD, couldn't see him there personally, unless it was a one off dance, |
