Overall, the dances were entertaining, but not a very fair competition....
Kirstie and Maks/Charleston.
Oh, I didn't really like this much. Not my fave dance (seen too many naff, gurning Charlestons on Strictly). They didn't bother with the swivel thing and I thought Kirstie getting out of the cake was pointless and ungainly (as was getting into the swimming move at the end). Not the biggest challenge and only moderately well done. I'd give it 6.
Apolo and Karina/Hip Hop
I quite like hip hop

and thought this would be a high octane performance but found it a bit underwhelming. (Who knew hip hop had been around long enough to have 'Old Style'?

). I really felt for Karina - it must be so humiliating for a pro dancer to just fall on your a**e like that

. Apolo stayed cool and did a good job, but I don't know enough to really judge. Ignoring K's mishap, I would have given them 7.5
Bristol and Mark/Rock 'n' Roll
Mark should have been able to go lift-tastic and overboard in a way that only Mark can. I rarely feel sorry for Mark, but I'm starting to. I read she asked him to simplify the routine, too!

. Be gone, Bristol!! My score: 4.5 (for turning up).
Gilles and Peta/Bollywood
High energy and good co-ordination between them. I can't say how authentic it was, so it's a bit hard to judge them, but I thought lifts seemed inappropriate and crow-barred in. I'd give them 8.5
Emmit and Cheryl/Bolero
As far as I know, a Bolero is a rumba which is a bit ballroom-ified..

. It seemed to be a rumba with lifts. Was Cheryl being a bit lazy with this?

. Emmit didn't do many steps and I'm afraid I don't rate his dancing. Wouldn't miss him at all if he left. Score: 6.5
Melissa and Tony/Jitterbug
Whoever said they were well matched was right, but I feel Melissa has gone as far as she can. I really liked her in her first season (and don't have any negative feelings about her now), but I don't see any massive improvement and this dance was alright but not very exciting. My score: 7
Shawn and Derek/Mambo
I think they got lucky with their genre - it shouldn't be new to Derek and she was brilliant. In her first series, she was good (especially towards the end) but I always felt she was too young to express some of the dances. She's grown into it and Derek is very lucky to have her. Great dance. 9.5
Sabrina and Louis/Disco
I hate disco. The clothes, the music, the dancing! Hate it,
hate it,
hate it! I
love Sabrina though! She's a proper dancer (not
always a subtle one!) and I'm starting to wish they had swapped her and Bristol. Thought the choreo a bit boring and there was something amiss (don't know if it was timing as per Bruno) but it was off somewhere. Still, she did a good job with a hateful genre!

. I'd give them 8
Kelly and Val/Contemporary
Well I love these two, so I'm pre-disposed to like this dance and it was one of the tougher challenges. It was very Mia Michels. They went out of sync at one point, but the lifts were fantastic and they both lived and breathed the routine. I'm in awe of Kelly's core strength - really amazing. (Are all contemporary dances bedroom scenes? Is it compulsory to dance in your scanties?

). Anyway, it was the highlight of the night for me, so I give them 9.5
Sorry to drivel on. The judges should have been much harsher on Bristol (unless it's reverse psychology and they don't want to stir a hornets' nest of voting on her behalf...). America, please let her go this week!
