Kindle advice - which one, where to buy etc...

It's my wife's b'day tomorrow and I've promised her a kindle so I'm off to buy it later today. I was just going to pop round the corner to the nearest shop that does them but I really could do with some advice on which version of the Kindle to get and if there is anywhere in particular I should go to get it?

Tesco sell them. You can get points then. Las time I looked they have the touch screen one and one with buttons to flip pages. The one with buttons is the cheaper model.

Theres the Touch and the basic kindle. The Touch can hold more books i believe and has text to speech. It also has a feature called x ray on compatible books. Both are wifi only although some stores may stock the 3G touch.

I have basic kindle and the older kindle keyboard. I just never fancied a touchscreen for my kindle. Ive tried it out but am much happier with the buttons on either side. Maybe let your wife see what she prefers on store?

the older keyboard model has effectively free 3G web browser which is limited but fine for news, forums, emails, etc. the newer kindles only let you do that on wi fi,

These are no longer in shops but may still be purchased direct from amazon.

the keyboard model has also just had a software update which allows it to read the newer kindle formats. this is easily downloaded from amazon and installed on the device.

..... the browser is slightly crash-prone, and it's best to view websites via a mobiliser website, eg skweezer.com.
