Poor Rita Ora
Are people just not that into her? Sure, her album was number 1, but that was only after selling 45k in the first week and it only stayed in the top 10 for like 2 weeks. Now it is at number 14 with Ed Sheeran, Emeli Sande, and Michael Jackson are all ahead of her on the album chart just 4 weeks after her album release and it has been pushed back in the US. Then she gets called out on twitter for copying Rihanna's tweet from the other day. Then the tour she is supposed to support gets pushed back a year, but she won't even be able to do it when it comes around. Then she lost the Rolling Stone cover to Karmin and an album not coming out till November is outselling her. I kind of feel bad for her, tbh even though I don't like her music. What does she need for the public to get on her side again, or will she just stay a singles artist?

Tours get rescheduled all the time, as do album releases so there's really no big deal there. Karmin are an american group as well so probably higher profile.
Essentially, nothing you've said there is really anything untoward. Sure, her album was weak, but that doesn't mean there's any major crisis going on here. |

She lacks any bit of star quality. The dreadful styling doesn't help. I'll be surprised if she makes it to album #2

Karmin aren't really that big here. People mostly loved them for their covers, but their own material is really weak. It just seems like nothing has been going right for her these past few weeks.

BIB- What Rihanna tweet did she copy? LOL I think she needs to abandon this album and go make some decent music because people aren't interested in her current sound. Except from RIP & How We Do the rest is week. And lets not forget how she made herself look like a complete tool by saying she was offered Cheryls Call My Name which Calvin Harris denied and said he doesn't even know why she would say that. |

Album-wise the public don't seem interested. She's had some pretty good exposure but it hasn't really worked. There's no money/future in just selling singles. No idea where she goes from here but she really needs to try and get away from her 'genericness' (I know that isn't strictly a word but it seems appropriate here).

. I don't think she's going to be big in the USA tbh, she's done so much promotion over there yet the public aren't here for her. |

Well I'm surprised at that as she has been shoved down our throats a lot recently.

People aren't interested in her as an artist. It's the songs that people love. R.I.P and Hot Right Now in particular are extremely popular here. How We Do not so much.

She's boring and she's been forced on the public, that's why she isn't sticking. Her music is .. just as generic as it gets and she looks awful. She just screams desperation.

I think the bottom line is, Rita Ora isn't anything special. I think the only reason she is being 'bigged up' is simply for the fact that she's being dubbed another Rihanna. Even at that nobody is really taking notice anymore.
I'll admit I liked R.I.P but grew out of it quite quickly. I assume people thought she was gonna be huge because she's signed to Roc Nation, but she's being treated as Rihanna in that aspect. And even at the moment, people are quite tired of hearing Rihanna all the time, so who will want Rita if she's being taken down that road? For me at least, Rita is gonna just be another phase. For being the "next big thing" she really hasn't had much success with the US where they thought she'd blow up |

She's not doing well because her music is throwaway stuff, very generic. Also she's shoved down our throats every 5 minutes. At least Rihanna had time to build herself up before she became massive.
My friend bought her album & said she was surprised how it was so lacking in energy. "A great big ball of nothing," was how she described it. |

I think her main problem is Roc Nation. Rihanna was lucky that she was signed to Def Jam and not Roc Nation. LA Reid refused to drop her when Jay-Z wanted to when they were both the label heads and now she is bigger than ever, but Rita is stuck with Roc and Jay-Z has a horrible track record with getting his artists huge, especially the girls. He's just like Diddy, it seems. The only reason J. Cole has taken off is because he took control of his career and when Jay-Z wouldn't push him, he pushed himself. Rita should try doing her own thing.

Reason being, she is just a mediocre artist - simples!!
Credit where it is due - the girl CAN sing!....however..... #1....her first single was a collaboration which IMO was always DJ Fresh Ft her (not the other way round ) She failed to make a REAL impact on it an make it her own #2 She chose to steal a relatively new Drake song to pass of as her own 'debut'. Whilst it made the mainstream and charted really well, fans of Drake will be aware that it was a cover.....which is fine and well!... but she/they didnt even allow Drake's original version to mature before jumping on it's coat-tails #3: 'How We Do' is a very basic 'I wrote this in half an hour' song, and lacks the energy the lyrics require. Also to mention, it is her first 'solo' release and I think people have now realised that she was being propped up by supporting artists and other people's songs rather than her own merit And yes, I know she has had #1's, but I think we can safely say that doesnt count for much anymore in this country:sleep: |

She's rubbish and has no USP: I've absolutely no idea why she was being pushed so hard...

What makes her a star when you strip away all the money, ugly clothes etc.....? There is nothing unique about her, and that shows up in her music. Every song on her album is modelled on some other artist's style and it shows...especially as she sounds radically different in every one of her songs. Her voice is average and she always looks so try hard in her videos....she is just another one of Jay-Z's 'projects' like Alexis Jordan, Teairra Mari etc, and considering she has not been doing well at all in the US, I think she's destined to be shelved....she may keep doing well in the UK, but I have a feeling that as soon as Jay-Z starts to lose interest and moves 'on to the next one', she won't even get promoted in the UK either....just look at Willow.
There are already artists who do what she does but better, especially from the UK i.e. Jessie J, Alexandra Burke, Pixie Lott etc etc....we don't really need her and that puts her in an odd position. I don't think it would be a major loss at all if she disappeared from the charts tomorrow in my view. |

To be fair, she hasn't done THAT bad. 45k first week sales is pretty good for a debut album. Plus it's pretty obvious she's a single artist, not an album artist. Look at someone like Carly Rae Jepsen, she's had a MASSIVE single, but her album only sold 9.5k first week. I know people are saying she's been "hyped up" but it's probably cause there wasn't many new artists coming out with something over the summer.. plus from looking at forums and as this thread has proven, not that many people are into her as some people might think. So I'm actually surprised it did sell 45k in one week (and more by now)
I'm not particulary a fan of her, I just don't think a "poor Rita" is needed. Most new artists would kill for three #1 singles and a #1 album. And she's probably not poor at all, she's probably made a few bucks by now, living the celebrity lifestyle, travelling the world etc. Probably won't last, but she's still not done too badly considering. I certainly don't feel sympathy towards her!

Yeah, I think "Poor Rita" is a very strange thing to say. There's dozens of artists I wish could have the success that she's had.

'Poor Rita Ora', seriously? Achieving the success she's had with her lack of real quality or any properly good songs, I'd say she's been very, very lucky.
