hi i have just got a new phone form genie and a new number.
some of my mates tho can't select reply to automatically text me back which is a bit of a pain for them. they have to either manually enter my number or search their phone book and eneter my number from there.

Has anyone else had this problem? Anyone know a solution?

If it can't be fixed i am going to port my old number across. to contact one2one is the number just 121? and does anyone know if it will cost me to transfer my number?

Hm... you might find porting a number to a SIM with a number already assigned a bit difficult... Tried it a couple years ago and the company I was with said it couldnt be done. Might be different in the modern world tho... g'luck mate

As for not being able to reply to your messages, from my limited experience, this is a feature of your mates' handsets, and not the intermediate service. I know the old Motorola firmware was particularly poor at thst kind of neat and handy functionality, and ericsson is only a little bit better... I'd say Nokia have it best for features, but their handsets tend not to last very long.

Give me a Motorola handset with Nokia code and I'll be happy...

It is possible to move your number even after you have been assigned a number. I recently moved to Genie monthly contract - the best decision I made as regards to phones.

What you have to do is contact the network of your old SIM and ask them your PAC code, once you have this code email it to Genie and tell them you want to move your number. They will do this within 2 weeks and won't charge you a penny.

But one2one might charge you.

Are the mates in question on one2one? You may find that the problem is caused by their SMS settings having "reply through senders SMS service centre number" (or likewise) set to "yes", which wouldn't matter if you were on the same network and so had the same service centre number, but as you're now on genie/btcellnet, it does.

OTOH, when I first got my genie, a friend on Orange had trouble texting me because I had been assigned a number in the new 07736 prefixed range, and Orange hadn't updated it into their service yet. This was fixed within a few weeks when Orange updated their service, but I guess it could be a similar problem to that. Also, this was back in October, so quite a while back now.

Also, I had a problem identical to yours when texting a friend of mine, reply-to never worked when i tried to reply to his sms. We never did track down exactly what was, and it was a problem that crossed networks and contracts, but only with him and I think only on one handset. I can only assume it was something he had in his sending settings, but again I can't for the life of me work out what.
