To be fair DS has nearly 2 million members so I think that is a good base of views to draw a conclusion on.

Based on a forum with 1.7million members who watch TV it is in my OPINION that the majority of users on the forum that are soap viewers think that Marlon and Laurel are NAFF together!

Emmerdales viewing figure used to be higher than 5-6million, they were often at 7million so they've actually lost over million regular viewers.
DS at this time only has 481,041 members i think you've read how many threads have been created!

I think our voice is as good as any and i do belive that there is someone at ED that reads these forums! TV shows nowadays have someone who checks all public forums/Twiter/Facebook etc to see the reaction! Our views shouldnt be cut out all together because we are only a minority our evidence has shown on here that Maurel just havnt gone down well at all we did a poll on the boards not long ago aske whether we liked them as a couple and around 83% said no!

I seriously dont think its wrong of Charlotte Bellamy and Mark Charnock to big up the story but when they are coming out with stuff like it resembles A Breif Encounter, She is the love of Marlon's life and they have Amazing Chemistry is were we have a problem and sounds a bit desperate to get the message home that these two are the ultimate love story thats something they need to reign in!

Maurel seem about as popular on twitter as they are on here

Don't get me wrong there'll be the odd "omg Marlon and
Laurel are so cute together" comment but even on twitter poor Mark Charnock and the official Emmerdale account are getting tweets from people keen to voice their disapproval of Maurel it seems.
Can't say I'm terribly surprised as when I check twitter I see comments like this and a LOT of anger over how Laurel's treated Ashley

Conversely I rarely see a negative comment about Gennie
and Nikhil- the comments after their scenes (and I'm discounting tweets to the actors themselves as they are usually from fans who will always praise the actor they tweet) are generally positive

It's not 100% accurate but I find the immediate reaction the programmes on twitter is a pretty good guage of opinion

Like it or not- you would be crazy to ignore such a strongly negative view of a storyline on forums and twitter

But I'm resigned to Maurel- they're here to stay

Just wish they'd give the viewers break from watching them as they are so awkward on screen it's awful to watch

I love how a couple who, ultimately, aren't very interesting together can provoke so much debate and endless topics.

I'm a bit dubious about the whole "fans love them together" attitude the Emmerdale team seem to have, but I'm prepared to accept it's a possibility - many many times we've seen people win viewer voted soap awards that totally go against everything people say on here. So out of 6 million viewers (of which how many are on DS by the way, about 0.000001%?) there must be a huge chunk that actually, shockingly, like them. My only issue is how are they being more vocal than the haters on here, is it twitter and letters? It boggles the mind.

Marlon had chemistry with Tricia and Donna. The latter shouldn't have worked but it just did.

With this there is nothing. It's just very very weird. Like they are work colleagues debating a problem or something. It doesn't help that they've both been in it for years and suddenly it's happened but even that can work for some characters. Not here.

My absolute biggest problem with it all is that Laurel came in, was obsessed with Ashley, spent ages trying to get him (a couple of years no?), they finally got together (and how ironic at the time I seem to recall people thinking it wouldn't work, but then Laurel matured as a character and so it did), then they had years of being a great couple with a couple of amazing storylines. Then suddenly it all falls to pieces, over nothing except some terribly executed out of character stories. I think the Sandy abuse plot should have still played out, absolutely, but that Laurel should have (and most likely would have) stuck by Ashley in the end. Not to excuse Ashley from it, but I think realistically she would have.

I know long-term couples fall out of love etc, but the way they've written this does not ring true, not one tiny bit. And then you get to the zero chemistry. Which is the final nail in an already rotting coffin. Terrible on all levels.

I cringed (even more than usual) when Marlon said "hug me" to Laurel on Thursday. The scene couldn't be anymore awkward.

Chemistry my arse!

I think the actors have developed Stockholm Syndrome where this story is concerned. They're the victims too
Hahaha ..... Laurel & Marlon will have that on their gravestones ................. "We did nothing wrong!"

Lol!!!

Even Daisy the dog has buggered off & made herself scarce.

Blind Lizzie is lucky, she can't see the carnage unfolding on the sofa next to her.

Yes someone on here reckons that Laurel seems to stiffen up when Marlon comes to kiss her," maybe he had been eating garlic or onions" they said!

LOL and help line at the end of the episode. " If you have been affected by Marlon and Laurel you can call the Samaritans".

People who tweet famous people are usually sycophants who will agree with everything just to get a little bit of interaction between themselves and the celebrity. Anyone who converses with celebrities on twitter on a regular basis should not be relied upon to be truthful, they will say whatever that celebrity wants to hear and will kiss their asses
not everyone does

I agree Marlon and Laurel have no chemistry, but then again I don't think Declan and Katie or Nikhil & Gennie do either. The difference for me, is that I think (and hope) that the latter two are intentionally written that way.

I don't dislike them because of how they treat Ashley, he ultimately brought it all on himself. If the writers are now trying to make Laurel and Marlon a bit unlikeable to regain some sympathy for Ashley after they made him so evil, I have to ask myself why do they continue to place long-running characters in situations that can only end in them leaving the show... And if they keep them on, contrive to regain their former popularity somehow (yes Andy, I'm thinking of you)

Well I suppose we'll be told to ignore twitter too but I can't see any widespread support for Maurel- it's hard to see how they could be hugely popular or that the majority of viewers love them- apart from about three I love them tweets this is what I found
