and so the wuzzrobbed thing hinges altogether on the presence of a dance off.

But hey equally if Lisa was never in the competition at all Austin may not have had the opertunity to win as she may have been replaced by Johnny Depp”

Or, as my Grandpa used to say, 'If we had ham, we could have ham and eggs, if we had eggs.'

I agree it was HUGELY annoying that Lisa was saved at the expense of better dancers (Cherie was one) but, to be fair, we don't know if a straightforward public vote would have produced a different result. The week that Lisa was saved at the expense of Jodie (another one who woz robbed, incidentally), Christine and Matthew were bottom of the leader-board, so the public saved them from the bottom two. They were kicked out the following week when the judges saved Rachel and Vincent. But who knows if Christine wasn't actually the more popular of the two? In which case, Rachel wouldn't have made the final.

It's all ifs and buts and maybes, I know, but the dance-off FEELS like manipulation, so I'd rather it weren't a factor. But it is, so I'll just have to get over myself.

I hated the dance-off - why on earth would we want to have to sit through the 2 worst dances again?
Whoever gets the least number of votes should go, imo.

She did one of the few rumbas that didn't make your eyeballs hurt.

Even in the last few seasons people have not really outstayed their welcome by much , even Widdy only stayed a couple of dances after it seemed most people were fed up with her, and on the whole I think the best dancers got to the finals in these dance off less series.

I could never stand WIddy from long before she ever was on the programme so I don't count in that scenario.

The cons to me are obvious , we had "wuz robbed" situations in Austin and also Gethin.

It lead to one of the most unpopular, judged by dance off's, person getting to a final, Lisa. Quite frankly what was the point in that, did the judges think we would suddenly all change our mind and decide she was the best thing since sliced bread , then go on to win ?

So , for me I cant think of any real point in re instituting the dance off. It makes me nervous for another "wuz robbed" situation.

But, surely, if as they say,it came back because of popular demand, what are the benefits of having a dance off?”

Very good points here and I like how you provided examples to support your argument .
Ok imo the pros of having a dance -off is: 1- to save a great dancer for the next round because lets be honest some very good dancers on this show are not necessarily popular. 2-Plus having the dance-off gives more credibility to the show since its supposed to be about dance after all and not entertainment .
3-it can increase the ratings between that particular time slot because most people will be anxiously waiting
Well the cons are 1-the judges saving their favorites even if they are not necesarily the public Favorites but that stll backfire though a la Lisa 2-omg the numerous he/she wuz robbed thread

Much of the bitterness that has been caused by the dance off could be eradicated if it ceased before the semi final with 5 couples still left. I'd be quite happy to kick it into touch altogether but this would be a compromise.

I'm still annoyed that the judges effectively chose the final two in series 5 even though the result of the semi final basically gifted Alesha a win which, imo, was the correct result.

I'll never stop being bitter Anyone who voted for Gethin in any week of that series should have had their money refunded imo.

The thing is if my favourites go home because they're not getting enough votes then fair enough, but if they might be getting the votes and the judges send them packing it's just wrong. I can't remember the last time I actually bothered to vote.

I can't see any real justifications for the dance-off. The one time I thought it could save somebody with real potential who would struggle for votes at first was Martina Hingis and they sent her home.

Because it's relevant to the current series in that they are bringing back the dance-off?

Some things will never go away or stop hurting - it's called history. I still get upset when I think about the library at Alexandria...

Not necessarily - but the problem is that saving someone from the DO is dependent on the fans of others too - Austin might have been saved from the drop had Tom fans not voted in their droves and Alesha's fans frightened by her appearance in the DO the week before done likewise. I don't blame them in fact I think Tom going home in the quarters due to a wrong system would have sucked too - it would never have happened to Alesha perfect waltz be damned the judges would have saved her in a DO even if the explainations for doing so were not in the true spirit of the DO - again rightly so.

To say that anyone who voted for Gethin should have their money back is over-dramatic although for that night perhaps. I was a Matt fan so it took my favourite the next year Austin getting eliminated to truly understand the rage of his fans. I'm not sure what would have happened with the semi-final under the pre-DO system - as Matt has his supporters (the previous week proved that beyond any doubt) just as much as Gethin did - but I can appreciate the feeling of impotence amongst the Gethinites - at least without the DO their votes would have counted and been more than a token gesture. I still maintain that in both Austin and Gethin's case doing the DO on the lowest rather than the highest scoring dances would have been fairer too.

In Austin's case we're on surer ground - the tour proved Rachel had her fans but I don't think many really liked Lisa and every effort by the judges to bolster her seemed to provoke more resentment.

I think nearly all of our animosity could be reduced if they said no dance off from final 4 or 5 on, that it becomes purely a public vote.

It's only when we think the undeserving get to the final that we get overly annoyed. So I think we'd be happy with no dance off from quarter finals, or at least happier.
