Source: DS.

As part of the deal with the European Commission for Universal's £1.2 billion takeover of EMI, the label has agreed to sell EMI's 50% stage of the Now! brand.

The series is set to end with upcoming edition Now 83 - to be released in November - unless a buyer arrives to invest in the compilations.

The current compilation in the series Now 82 is currently the biggest selling album of the year with sales of over 700,000
I used to buy these albums and now my daughter does. Amazing longevity they have, be a shame if it ends now.

Seeing as there's a thread about them, does anyone know how the 'Now..' compilations comply with copyright and anything in that area? What I means is, does it tend to feature records from companies and/ or lables connected with the company(ies) that put it out, or do they decide on the records they want to feature and have some sort of blanket agreement with everyone? Do labels/ artists have the right to refuse to feature (i.e. are they approached first), and have they?

Sad that it's coming to an end of a 29-year era, but these days younger music-lovers are downloading individual tracks off the internet for free, as opposed to going into HMV and spending £12.99 or thereabouts on 40 tracks when they're only interested in 25 of them.

I wouldn't be too surprised if that was the end of them. I personally thought they were a waste of money. I usually buy the individual songs or albums if I like them. Not everyone likes all the songs on each Now CD. I guess they used to serve a purpose but not any more. Only Now compilation I did buy was Now: The Christmas Album on cassette.

Agreed used to buy all the Now CDs but now i just buy individual albums and songs i like rather than buying a Now CD where you may get songs that you don't like.

well i still buy the cds because if you work it out its cheaper than buying all the songs separately, unless you illegally download

So, because you're not particularly interested, this thread should end?

Rather arrogant.

You've hit the nail on the head. It should end because of that. No one cares much.

When you say no one cares, you actually mean you. Unless you've done a National survey in the last day.

Having seen a few of your posts from the last hour it would seem you're quite a charmer. Popping up just to criticise and slag off other peoples tastes etc.

I don't care much either, having never owned one of these, but they're an interesting phenomenon. Interesting too if they're on their way out, with downloading the whole or partial cause. When nobody cares enough to read a thread or post on it, it dies quickly enough by itself...

I love how it's always the ones who have never bought the CD/ never shopped at etc who complain about it ending or shutting down. Typical Middle Class Hypocrisy. I've bought four of the CDs in the past but if the time has come the time has come. End of. Move on.

In what way does EdgarK complain about them ending?
He doesn't!
So maybe you should read things a little more carefully. And what's this Middle class hypocrisy crap?
Really, what the f*** is your problem.
You need banning because you're just a wind-up troll.
Find something more constructive to do with your time.

Haha.Nicely put..I used to buy them when i was a kid but kind of grown out of them. I did enjoy reading the write-up in the inside sleeve about the band and how the song charted. Do they still do this??
