Yes; Moira Ross ditched Lilia (and Darren, Ian and Matt). Glen Coomber and Andrea Hamilton are now in charge.

Isn't Katya on her way to LA for something bigger and better.

And wasn't both Lilya and Nicole Cutler both ditched horribly by the BBC in a fashion that would not make either of them want to return to the show even if they were begged to by a new producer?

I would guess that the team behind this years Strictly have a Pro-dancer back up plan from last year when it happened twice in one series. And while it was prob seen as a rare thing, there would still be the point to plan for any probability (even if small) of it happening again at whatever point of the show.

Hope Aliona recovers soon, I'm sure this is not how she viewed her first few weeks of Strictly was going to pan out.

Very sad for Aliona, hope she makes a speedy recovery.

Watched Lilia on the Alan Titch show and would love to see her return . They may be afraid to do so though because they know Lilia is far more popular and they don't want it pointed out to them their big mistake.

I agree it is very sad news, but unfortunately its probably going to take a few weeks to heal.

Predictably, The Sun sees the incident ratehr differently:

Quote:
“TELLY boffin Johnny Ball last night threw Strictly Come Dancing into chaos after breaking professional partner Aliona Vilani’s LEG.

Sexy Aliona, 28, is now out for up to a MONTH with the hairline fracture.

And with the new series starting in a week’s time Beeb chiefs were last night desperately trying find a new dance partner for Johnny, 74.

Aliona was rushed to hospital after Think Of A Number genius Johnny got his legs entangled with hers while rehearsing a tango routine.

A source revealed: “She let out a huge yelp and fell to the floor clutching her leg — which swelled up like a balloon.

“The on-site doctor looked at her, but she was still in loads of pain.

“She went to hospital where they found she had a fracture. Johnny is devastated.””

Rose tinted glasses, much? The last few years have been the most successful, so the shakeup of the pros in 2010 wasn't a mistake except to a very small group of dedicated fans. I doubt most of the general public would be able to name them.

I agree, I miss Ian, but the rest I don't. I much prefer Artem and pasha to the other guys.

Oh dear The Sun. Enough said.

Disappointing for Aliona, and us too - was looking forward to seeing her partnership with someone less "able".

I know she's back in the States now but I have a feeling they'll ask Lacey Schwimmer. I'm not really a fan of Lacey but she's not involved in the current series of Dancing with the Stars so she may well be available and she's a known entity to the Strictly/DWTS franchise.

Unfortunately it could be a six to eight week recovery if it is a fracture I'm told.

It didn't look too swollen in the photo, so hopefully there are no other complications.

I'll wait for some other source as to what happened. Whatever it was will be an unfortunate accident.

I was looking forward to seeing them as they seem to have been getting along very well and enjoying working together.

i wonder if he's deaf? She should sue the BBc to teach them to be more careful about such mismatched pairings.

These tabloid articles seem to be written to make it sound as bad as possible to stir things up. Aliona's tweets are not those of someone who was in tears. Accidents and injuries happen. Dancers accept that and just get on with it.

its not Johnnys fault, it was just an accident, these things happen, it could have happened to anyone

Johnny could hardly be more of a beginner. It makes no sense to blame him for this incident. Nor Aliona, before folk pull it the other way! Accidents happen. Aliona seems remarkably cheery. I hope Johnny doesn't feel too guilty and that he carries on in the competition when a new partner is found for him. It would be easy and natural to pull out at this stage, if the contract would let him, but Chin Up!

I think they might bring Karen (Hardy) in to dance with Johnny, and get Ian to take over on the red button until Aliona is back.

Actually Aliona could do the red button commentary as she will no doubt have to sit down and rest for a few weeks... but yes I agree, bring Ian in to do the red button commentary.

Do we know for sure that Katya has gone to LA yet?? If it wasnt for that, she'd be perfect.

Part of me thinks that Lilia would be better than Karen, but doubt she would do it.

Yes I think Karen would be a natural choice since she's still part of the show and she would make Johnny feel at ease - I think they'd make a wonderful pair

Why should she sue the BBC who've treated her so well and given her platform to become famous with very good celeb partners over the years Risk of injury comes as part of her job!

Johnny and Aliona were not a mismatched pairing - I was actually looking forward to seeing what she could do with someone different and older. I think it's quite unfair to blame Johnny, he probably feels bad enough about it as it is!

I hope Aliona makes a speedy recovery, it's a pity we won't see her in the first round but hopefully she'll get to dance with Johnny if the doctors give her the all clear.

Poor Aliona, what a horrible thing to have happened. Wishing her a speedy recovery and hopefully we'll see her dance at least in a pro dance capacity later this series if she's not recovered enough in time to compete.

Plus isn't Camilla still with Calandar Girls - as well as being 5ft 8 to Johnny's 5ft 9”

They're not missed by everyone, don't generalise please. I would be very surprised if Lilia was asked back, she burnt her bridges a few years ago by not taking part in the dance troupe (not saying she should have done, I think she was right to refuse, but it's burnt bridges nonetheless.)

Please don't let Zoe step in - how biased!
It be good to see Karen Hardy - no way will Lillia be asked back since she has no involvement with the show what so ever. Think she would give them two fingers up too if they asked her.”

How nasty! You have no idea how it happened, could have been a slip up on a simple move, accidents happen. Maybe have a bit of compassion instead of having a dig at her for no reason whatsoever!
