Charlotte Church said that Modren music is cheap rubbish.

Claims alot of it has been done before but now it's less, crative and more water down cheap rubbish. That early 90,s dance synth thing with the four chord bash mixed in.I don't listen to chart music now there is no alternative in it or freedom anymore to express yourself.I play with the big girls now not the little teenage one that still dance and go at the clubs.I dont listen to radio 1 the music just to predictable and the same with MTV,but I do listen to BBC 6 music.

Would agree completely. 99% of what is put out is sheer crap with maybe a few exceptions. Everytime I hear Rap or other forms of it I cringe.

She can't really talk. She tried to be mainstream with a pop song a few years ago.

She was pushed into it by her label though.. they forced her to stick threee singles onto T+I cause it wasnt commercial enough. plus her pop album was nothing like music today.

She is indeed very bitter, her flirtation with becoming the archetypal pop-diva filed miserably and now she is scorned by it. Should have taken a page out of Hayley Westenra's book and just remained true to her roots, she'd have probably sold more records because of it..maybe not in manufactured brainless Britain but in South America/Far East etc.

Bitter perhaps but she does have a massive point too. Nearly all of the top forty has been done before but better its watered down cheap rubbish that requires no atention has had no thought put into and in parts barely listenable. But thats also not to say there aren't some truly gifted artists out there if you look away from the top forty and find them for yourself good music is no longer appreciated any more in the mainstream what is sellable and can be cheaply made for the biggest profit margins is what seems to be the qouta of modern pop.

..What and you thought this was the peak of uniqueness & originality?

I agree with your point, but Ms.Church should not be making these kind of statements.

It's a damn site btter than hats out there at the moment and i stand by what i said Music in the mainstream is not that good its the same product churned out just with a different face and voice. But again the charts and mainstream isn't all there is there will always be good music you jst have to sometimes find it.

charlotte has said herself in the interview with DS that crazy chick was not something she wanted, so she would be in agreement with you...

I loved Charlottes Tissues and Issues album. Call My Name and Crazy Chick are two brillian pop songs. I still listen to it every now and again. I was hoping she'd return to that sound on day. Her last album was terrible in comparison.

Charlotte's not bitter. She just happens to have gotten into really good music over the past few years, and when that happens, you feel having the odd rant against the woeful mainstream now and again. I know this cos i did it yesterday after hearing Gangham Style.

Haha, exactly. Charlotte is just trying to remain relevant.

Why though? She was a teenager when she started Tissues & Issues, so is it not at all plausible that she has gotten into different types of music, and realised what the industry today is like?

Like people have said before, in the interview, Charlotte clearly says herself that Call My Name and Crazy Chick were something that was forced upon her by her label, so I'm not really sure she would be slating her own career had she of wanted to stay relevant and if she really enjoyed her pop era.

When the state of pop music was infinitely better than the derivative piles of wank clogging up Radio airwaves today.

Comparison irrelevant.

Pop music went downhill when GA had their 'break' - hopefully their return will signal the tide turning!

I partly agree with her. This new dance craze is starting to outstay its welcome. Every single song has just become the exact same beat with similar shitty generic lyrics. Pop was better before 2008 in my opinion. Its all samey samey now and I blame Lady Gaga for it as that is now the sound all record labels are trying to repeat.

I say thank **** for the likes of Lana Del Rey, Sia and Adele.

Charlotte Church had a big hit only a few years ago, so she would be part of this.

I do agree with her though, about how the pop music today is mostly a watered-down rehash of the stuff that was popular in the late 90's. That's so true.

It all changed around 2006 time, when Timbaland got popular again. Since then, everybody has just copied his sound again and again.

Charlotte's Call My Name was awful. That video for it with her jiggling her tits around was pure cringe.

I don't know how Charlotte Church can say today's music is crap when her music is crap, when was the last time she had a number 1 single? when was the last time she had a 10 ten album?

I think it's stupid when people say today's music is crap because it's not, it depends on who you listen to.

There is some bad music out there like Cheryl Cole, Tulisa anybody that's come out of the X Factor.

Not quite. Charlotte tried to jump on the "what is popular now" bandwagon herself, so why she is bitching about other people doing the same thing is just stupid.

Charlotte has sold millions and millions of albums. In America too. She was completely foolish to throw it all away but she has every right to voice an opinion given she has actually sold far more than most in the charts currently.

I know what she means, a lot of songs have that horrible same beat that first appeared in the 90s, prime example is that ne-yo song. Having said that there's some good stuff around right now like Taylor Swift and Pink
