I'm looking to buy a tablet and up until today I was ready to go out and buy a 3rd generation iPad, however having had a go of an Android tablet this morning I'm now not so sure, but at the same time I'm not entirely convinced by Android.
I fell out with Android earlier this year. After having an iPhone 3GS from July 2009 - December 2010, I moved over to a HTC Desire, running Android. I loved Android, it allowed me lots more freedom than iOS and even though the app selection was inferior to that of the iPhone, by all accounts it was growing and was due to catch up very soon.
By May of this year the app selection for Android was still pretty poor in comparison to the iPhone. Whilst many organisations optimised their websites for phones, rather than building apps I still found that it was much easier to get things done on the iPhone, as such I moved back to my old 3GS.
My general understanding of tablets is that they are effectively smart phones, but larger, though not necessarily with the mobile network capability. Having used an Android tablet today (a JoyTAB 10" - although I'm not going to get this, more likely a Samsung) I noticed that whilst the app selection is still nothing compared to that of the iPad, because of the increased screen size it made using websites instead to be very simple.
Having looked at prices it seems that increasing an iPad from 16GB to 32GB seems to cost around £70, whereas increasing a tablet from default size to 32GB is just the cost of a flash card, which is around £20. Also many of the Android tablets I've seen come with mobile capability, whereas Apple charge an extra £100 to have this capability. I'm finding it very hard to justify spending £500+ on an iPad when I can get a decent Android tablet for £300-400, with the only downside being the selection if apps.
Can anybody offer me any guidance on this? Also is it possible to connect Android tablets to networked or shared printers?
