I'd not take record sales as any reliable evidence of song writing ,"quality."
Any number of songs have sold in their miilions but don't necessarily qualify as great pieces of work, enjoyable though some of them might be.
Also, in terms of output, I think they sort of dried up, over 12 years ago, and didn't exact leave a massive volume of work as a basis for comparison...whereas Barlow is still writing and producing songs, not just for Take That, but for other artists?
I'm not aware of
any artists clamouring for Victoria Beckham, or Mel B to write, or produce their work?
I'd also say it's up for debate as to how much input either Beckham, or Mel B had into "writing," any songs for which they won awards.
It was pretty much touted in the press during her time with The Spice Girls and subsequently that Beckham contributed the "odd line," to her "songs," but insisted on more credit than she deserved....
Certainly, I remember her appearing on The Big Breakfast with Dane Bowers, as she was about to embark upon her lucrative solo career, talking about how she was "learning to play the keyboard," and how that was essential to her being able to have more of an impact on the final product.
I note she was very careful not to play the one they put in front of her and I've not noticed her tinkling the ivories in any of the shows they've put on in recent years....but then, I'm not at all sure she's actually sung that much in them either, though she does a good line in pouting, posing and prancing about!
I also remember that Mel B, was very careful not to sing during the time
she hosted a talent show, largely, I assume, because most of the people involved were significantly better vocalists than she.
I'm not aware of any songs that either Mel B, or Victoria Beckham have written, entirely on their own without massive help that have won any awards?
As for Cocozza, I'd entirely agree, a total disaster area..
As for Chris Maloney, he's an entirely different animal singing wise and could hold a tune better than any of the Spice Girls, bar Mel C..but then Barlow, didn't want him there anyway..he was kind of stuck with him?
Rich.
