Also none of the ladies above are from the UK

Looking forward to a new dancer too

Iveta has very recently been a pro on DWTS in India, so has experience of teaching a celeb in front of the cameras.

She also took part in DWTS Las Vegas show for the whole of its run earlier this year. This was a BBC Worldwide production, so she hasn't really been recruited from 'outside'.

Oh, poor Aliona. Iveta looks like she's well capable though.

(I read he'd been rehearsing with Ian. I love the idea that Ian is on standby, ready to swoop in to the dance-related rescue at any moment. Need to showcase a new judge? Call Ian? Pro has injury. Ian's do it etc)

I would expect the panel to be easyish on Johnny seeing as he's having to get used to a new partner in barely a week which is quite tough. His cha will be no better or worse than we think it'll be but the Tango will be hard for him.

Effectively that'd mean paying someone tens of thousands of pounds to do nothing.

Mmm, I'm sure the Daily Mail would have a field day with that one.

She's a good dancer, why is there a problem? Short of people hating foreigners?

Thanks Wingi - it's good to know she has some experience from within the 'extended family' . No matter how good her credentials as a dancer (and hers look sparkling) - it would take anyone a bit of time to adjust to the other parts of the job. Still, it must be daunting for her, being parachuted in at the sharp end. I wish her and Johnny the very best and hope they can stay around long enough for Aliona to return.

Like Olive, I'm a bit gutted we might not get to see what Aliona could do with JB. She has so many detractors, I was hoping she'd have the chance to show a different side of herself .

I couldn't care less that she's not British - I love all the funny foreign accents ...

Well, I think she looks like a fabulous dancer and hope she stays around on the show!

I couldn't care less where the dancers come from either.

I think I might have worn that particular video out.

The pros have all signed a contract for the whole series. They are probably looking for someone to work on a shorter time scale possibly weekly.

I don't know why people are so sure that Johnny will be out quickly. He is going to get a big sympathy vote, he's a TV legend, factor in Zoe and ITT, he is a funny and charismatic guy. I really think he will outlast some of the others.

Yes, exactly. You couldn't get a much more highly qualified dancer for Strictly. World Champion two years running. And she's been on SYTYCD (so has performed on English speaking tv and danced with partners who were unfamilar with ballroom) and the Israeli equivalent of Strictly. It's not like the BBC went out into the streets and picked up the first person they found who could vaguely remember how to do a foxtrot. Considering the short amount of time they'll have had to find a replacement for Aliona, I'd say the one they've got is pretty amazing.

First and foremost, I didn't dispute that she is a good dancer. Secondly...WHERE did i state that i hate foreigners? Please do not try to make assumptions, as i am far from being a "foreigner hater".

My point was that you would think that the BBC would have people in place as stand by's and first port of call would be on someone in the UK.

Iveta is a beautiful and very talented dancer; she should be a great asset to the show.

Frankly they're a darn sight better than the average Brit ballroom dancer - and you're lucky to get them.

It's the classic 'island mentality' that dogs this country and makes it seem small minded and prejudiced when - in reality - the majority are not that way inclined. They are more open-minded.

Time you stopped resenting those of us who come here. We have a lot to contribute. It's 2012. Get over yourself

Why are there no British pro dancers considered good / charismatic enough for SCD. 3 male and no female British pros...surely we can't be that bad!!!!”

Well, you said it. What more can we add?

Sad, isn't it? It's 2012 and there are people out there who still think like that.

Shocking ignorance.

Well said Dolly! Maybe the 'homegrown talent only' people think that SCD adopts their dancers and then owns them? Or maybe they turn English overnight?

Quoted for truth. I went to sleep last night / this morning after a happy time on google and youtube amazed by Iveta's beauty and talent, and touched as well by her enthusiasm to come over here to do SCD. We landed on our feet. Lucky Johnny. Lucky Pasha.

I can't understand why folk don't want her.

Edit cos just read rest of thread and happy to see it's not everyone
