just to say, there is no way the Golf is going to dent X-Factor, no way.

I will now await the actual ratings.

Whilst we're waiting...

last week someone mentioned on here that Daybreak has a larger audience on a Friday (with Kate Garraway presenting)? Is this correct?

Jenny Cummins has not reported ITV1's ratings for last night on Twitter, unusually given that X Factor was on, which probably means that ratings are delayed.

Still well down on previous years for "the finalists revealed".

10m for DA, 2.5m for Marr - the BBC gifting viewers to ITV with documentary. Should be drama vs drama - at least C4 have got it right next week.

Well yesterday, i think we all agreed that 10.2-10.6 million would, although being down form last year, fit with the general rising and falling of audience with key episodes... so to be at least 500k off the lower estimate, isn't great...

Although it still a big show, don't get me wrong, other shows would kill for those ratings

Why?

Isn't it a good thing that both ITV and BBC offer alternative programming rather than clasing the same genre at the detriment of the audiences at home.

Also, do you really find it hard to believe that even a drama clash would stop Downton crossing the 10million mark?

Spooks did. And posted more respectable numbers than Marr.

They need to pull it - another six weeks would be a disaster!

I totally agree Robbie.

As worthy as Andrew Marr's programme might be, it is hardly must see Sunday night TV.

I feel it is the type of documentary more suited to BBC 2 on a weeknight, where it would probably perform quite well.

Currently BBC 1's Sunday viewing choice is made up exclusively of factual programming. Drama, light entertainment and comedy don't get a look in.

I was complaining about this before. I find Sunday nights on BBC1 unwatchable. It's just factual. I'll be watching the Strictly results show on BBC1 and nothing else. A few years back you'd get dramas and sitcoms on Sundays on BBC1 in the Autumn, I miss those days.

Equally people complained about the amount of period dramas and repetitive dramas that covered the screens on a Sunday. They can't win either way really.

BBC One should have had Hunted or something on.
Spooks did well last year.

Marr is the worst thing they could have chosen.
It'd be posing 2.5m with or without Downton.
[very good ratings for ITV last night]

There can still be an alternative with different drama though and bring more viewers to the channel at that time.
