Perfect, but Dr Who is on too early and Strictly is pointless with so many other things to show!! It's only ever really been filler...

I'm afraid that's very much against the law.
Strictly earns its Christmas Day slot because it's a) BBC1's highest rated series and b) a perfect fit for Christmas Day with its party atmosphere. As I've said before, if they want to drop anything from their Christmas Day line-up, I'd recommend they be brave and dump the deeply-depressing miserable-of-sin Eastenders. (Lights blue touch paper, then retires.) ![]() I think Having CTM on Boxing Day or Xmas Eve would be better, it could anchor a night, and free up some space on the day itself??

I think EE could and should be cut to half an hour this year, as a compromise. It's hardly the audience or the BBC's top priority this year and considering space is needed for much more critically acclaimed and suitable programmes such as Miranda and Michael McIntyre, perhaps the BBC needs to stop giving Eastenders a free pass, considering it's been so lacklustre these days.

I would definitely split EastEnders if possible. I know they were kinda forced into doing an hour long episode last year because of Downton but when that happens it tends to slightly suffocate the rest of the schedule. Two half hour episodes - one early evening and then one at 9pm makes for a better all-round schedule on Xmas Day.

Great hold for Arrow on The CW not so much for Nashville. I guess the lower lead-in contributed to the fall as well, I thought Suburgatory might have cracked a 3. Awful night for NBC, 3 hours of original scripted and nothing even close to cracking a 2.

Apparenty, Citizen Khan won't be back until autumn next year. Pointing out that Mrs Brown's Boys had ratings of 2-3 million in it's first series, and grew as it went on, getting 4-5m for repeats and 6-8m for the new episodes earlier this year, I wonder if it could do aswell.
I'm wondering if Top Gear could match/near to the ratings of 7-8m they had in 2007 when the new series starts next year. I have a slight feeling that this week's XF results will have slightly higher ratings than last week, considering the high-profile guests. In terms of the main show, it depends if 'club classics' can create a bit of buzz. CBBC have 'Wizards vs Aliens' starting in a bit, maybe could be a big hitter for them, maybe the first show to break the 'million mark' but we'll see. |

Strictly is perfect for Christmas Day and is the last thing I'd drop after the comedies. If anything I'd move Call The Midwife to Boxing Day as that schedule is already looking a bit drama heavy when coupled with EastEnders.
CTM is very much BBC1's equivalent of Downton Abbey (a Sunday night ratings giant) and the reason it was given a Christmas episode was because of the existance of, and success of, the Downton Christmas special. Therefore if Downton had a Christmas Day slot last year, and presumably, will have one this year, then BBC1 will want to give Midwife a Christmas Day slot. The argument against a Christmas Day slot is that there's so much else to go there. But CTM is BBC1's 2nd highest rated series behind Strictly. It took it 2 weeks to displace Eastenders from number 1 in BBC1's weekly ratings. So it's more deserving on a Christmas Day than any of the comedies or other dramas being touted from Christmas Day slots. |

Emmerdale rated well enough and much as I expected it to do. Dallas has finally bottomed out and ended on a classic old series cliff hanger last night (I had to check it was not the series finale - it still has 3 episodes to go). The surprise drop was Who Do You Think You Are? figure. Possibly its lowest ever?
I see CW's Arrow has impacted on BBC 1 s Strictly. Colin Salmon was hastily called back to Vancouver to shoot scenes and had to take his dance partner with him to be ready for Saturday's show. Oh and the ever reliable Sun has first alleged bookings for Dancing on Ice.

Emmerdale did bang on as I expected. That's an excellent figure for 7pm.
It's nice to see Hollyoaks hovering around the 1m mark, but it would be good to see an uplit to around 1.4-1.5m as we head towards Christmas.
Spoiler
So this could give Hollyoaks a much needed boost? |

Regarding the post earlier about US not remaking New Tricks. We discussed this on the NT thread a year or so back and had fun with some fantasy casting.
I suppose it is the old issue of the age profile of the show. I wonder if even ITV would have dared create a show with the expectation of not getting great ABC figures. Though I imagine it gets more than most shows designed for that purpose because great writing and acting usually clicks with a broader audience than the demographics department predict. You just know that in the USA they would have to cast someone from Glee in there as a cop with some shady past who has to work with the old fuddy duddy's as punishment. Just to try to grab the right audience. Thus destroying the whole point of this show. I think it is also a format particularly suited to UK TV and our public funded BBC model. Does it sell that well in commercially driven countries? Aside from Australia and other anglophile nations is it a hit anywhere I wonder? Would love to think its quality translated widely but I wonder. I think New Tricks is the perfect example of how UK TV can create gems unique to us that simply would not translate elsewhere. Only Fools will not travel as a remake. New Tricks depends too much on UK culture I suspect. But I would love to be proven wrong and see David E Kelley try to create a US version. Though I would even more rather him just bring Pickett Fences back as it has been downhill since. |

Guessing it's because no-one cares less about rounders in this country, and most countries in the world. Rightly so
![]() As for Emmerdale, its good, not excellent, I know I said I would like to see 10 million but its pretty close, and maybe I was over predicting slightly. The ITV 2 extra show did good as well. 5pm is far too early for Doctor Who, even on Christmas Day. |

I meant "didnt" not "did". anyways if this country put half as much effort into the Baseball World Series, as we do X-Factor, we might at least qualify for it, ok we will still loose. If Simon Cowell & ITV are reading this, I would like to offer the hand of friendship, and an idea for a new TV show. The idea of the show, is to build a team that can qualify for 2015 WBC. Lets see Simon Cowell put his energy into something useful for a change. I mean lets face it if there was a Syco TV series, fronted by Simon Cowell, about the World Baseball Classic, alot of people would very quickly change there minds. also when will Channel 5 air "Being Boston" what with the Red Sox owning Liverpool and all, its the natural spin-off. |

I hope he does this too, it'll be an even bigger disaster than Red or Black. Not sure Baseball is useful, horrible corporate franchises, not really doing much good for the world. |

Interesting that XF had 11.3m and a 40% share, whereas Strictly had around the same and a 46% share, gives the impression that the TV audience is less on Saturday.
Strictly's 5-minute peak on Saturday was 11.306m (46%) during 20:15-20:20, meaning the TV audience at that time (including same-day timeshift of that period) was about 24.6m. TXF's 5-minute peak on Sunday (exc +1) was 11.38m (40.67%) from 20:50 to 20:55. The total TV audience during those five minutes was therefore 28.0m. The peak including +1 was 11.7m. I can't find the peak share inc +1. |

Just out by 300,000 for Emmerdale last night, though the peak was 9.7 million.
