If the 9.2m figure that was going around this morning had been the average without +1 and not the peak or average with +1 then I feel Emmerdale would've been a resounding success. It's a shame it couldn't even break the 9m barrier in one showing. I know 8.8m is near enough 9m anyway but every viewer counts when you're looking at how much it increased by in comparison to the other soaps. I see that 10m tuned in for Mark Wylde's murder in 2010, if 10m tune in for the murder of a no mark character in terms of the show's overall history then why didn't more watch the live episode/Carl's death? Was the promotion not good enough, or was it a result of the show not being on top form recently?
Before anyone thinks I am having a pop I really enjoyed the episode and rate it higher than the EE and Corrie live episodes. I can't help being underwhelmed by 8.8m - the show can get that for big storylines in the winter that are well promoted anyway, the benefit of live normally adds on more than this. It's great to see the show back above 8m but in the context of a live episode 9m should've been the barrier. |

Monday's game shows ratings from Bother's Bar, including HD, excluding +1:
The Chase: 2.89m (20.5%)* University Challenge: 2.68m (10.9%) Pointless: 2.32m (15.5%)* Eggheads: 1.54m (8.5%) Deal or No Deal: 1.21m (12.7%)* Never Mind the Buzzcocks: 1.15m (6.1%) 8 Out of 10 Cats: 1.08m (6.3%)* Only Connect: 0.86m (3.5%) Breakaway: 0.84m (7.8%) The Weakest Link: 0.18m (2.7%) http://www.bothersbar.co.uk/?p=6363&...#comment-48848 I think The Chase, thanks partly due to its Celebrity Specials, has broken out and away from Pointless. I think the BBC though have themselves to blame for that for throwing the Pointless Celebrity editions around the schedule instead of keeping them at a consistent time. |

Does it sell that well in commercially driven countries? Aside from Australia and other anglophile nations is it a hit anywhere I wonder? Would love to think its quality translated widely but I wonder.
How it rates in places like Iran is another matter - do they have the equivalent of a Ratings Thread, I wonder? |

Channel 4 in good decision! ![]() Quote:
C4 announced today that comedian Adam Hills has signed an exclusive one year deal with the channel.
Coming off the critically acclaimed run as the host of The Last Leg, the late night show that ran daily during C4's coverage of the Paralympics, Hills will return with A Last Leg Christmas Special and a series run in 2013. Alex Brooker and Josh Widdecombe, his co-hosts will be resuming their places on the sofa, alongside Hills. |

That's hardly an improvement programming wise for NBC. Like swapping a turd with a cowpat.

Monday's game shows ratings from Bother's Bar, including HD, excluding +1:
The Weakest Link: 0.18m (2.7%) Another 11-year-old episode, down from 220k/3.2% a week earlier. The sooner they dump these repeats, the better. With that and a two-year-old Escape to the Country on BBC1 in the same 14:15-15:00 slot, the BBC are just polishing David Dickinson's tan, and handing ITV1 a boost to their all-day share. Having said that, I bet the ETTC repeats probably get about 1m.

A great rating for Emmerdale IMO. 9.2m (including +1) is very good result when you consider the way things are for the show at the moment. Its been having its worst year in a long time with a producer who knows nothing about The Village or the characters. The show has been posting some poor ratings over the last month or so and only picking up very recently. Some episodes have been under 6m and its been generally around 6.0m-6.5m over the last few months. It was never going to match Corrie or EE and I don't think the promotion surrounding it was the best tbh - but moving forward, the live episode has set up some really good stories so hopefully this is the much needed improvement the show needs.

Apparently there was quite a bidding war among the networks for it.

![]() And talking of C4 and scheduling - yes they've gone and put Misfits in the Sunday night slot at 10pm on E4, just to make sure they really are killing off Friday Night Dinner for sure. |

E4 to be beating C4 on Sunday nights at 10 then in the very near future. Friday Night Dinner heading for cancellation. |

I like to think the network executives all had to bake a cake - best one won the rights.
![]() Great rating - and one of the few shows C4 have treated well over the last decade keeping it to relatively short runs and almost without exception in the same Wednesday night slot for each series. Considering racism in football and BBC bashing are the in-things yet again for the press let's see how they interpret that one. Don't speak to soon - they've still got to schedule The Last Leg yet and rework it for outside the Paralympics. I'd be tempted to run it over a week at Christmas with it being the last leg of 2012, focusing on reviewing the year (though obviously pre-recorded rather than live). And talking of C4 and scheduling - yes they've gone and put Misfits in the Sunday night slot at 10pm on E4, just to make sure they really are killing off Friday Night Dinner for sure.

If anyone had said at the start of the year that Emmerdale would beat The X Factor in the overnights they would have been called mad...

Tbf, NBC at least has a hit with Revolution (so far) and The Voice and isn't doing as bad as the other networks this season...
