The schedule is good but I doubt they'd have a prewatershed British drama, I imagine any homegrown drama will be at 9pm or 10pm.

Wonder where Goodwin Games will go with Mindy and Ben and Kate getting the 9-11 episode back order, I imagine Raising Hope will go on hiatus or it debuts after American Idol.

Not sure why anyone has been bigging up EastEnders this week, all its been has been the marriage of two of the shows most potentially dull and underused characters (who are leaving anyway so does anyone have any interest) and the bizarre pairing of Fatboy and Denise

Fairly low for the 10pm news on BBC1 and ITV1. Hebburn and C4's tattoo doc appeared to dent them. The 6pm news hour looks strong for BBC1 and ITV1 in aggregate though: 46-47% combined share for the big two across the hour. Red Dwarf has some tasty demos.

I have a feeling Russell Howard's Good News won't recover until Red Dwarf finishes on the 8th November.

The rescheduling of Good News and EastEnders isn't helping BBC Three.

Enough ? It wasnt promoted at all! I billed it as a big week and not the BBC the fact its UP is a good thing. The share last night is pretty good. You mean like last year when EastEndefs actually came out head to head. Downton only pulled In front slightly in the officials. I bet any money downton gets a boxing day slot this year with Call the midwife airing. Oh and Kikwood wad still EP untill end of March. Lorraine stated she wouldnt change kirkwoods work as it puts too much pressure on the actors and writers but her storys play out at Xmas EDIT oh and anyother programe that gets 7.99 Would be rounded up to 8millon not EastEnders sadly

On another note regarding EastEnders i wont be surprised if its dented tonight (Friday) with Channel4's cancer event and seeing EastEnders has a lot of younger fans its possible as CH4 had comedt and popstars on.

Quite frankly, I am not surprised about Private Practice ending. I enjoyed the show until season 3. Then from season 4, it pretty much went downhill. I tuned in from time to time, but the quality was too impossible to recover. Plus, with Kate Walsh saying she won't continue after the 13-episode run this season, there was no way that the show could survive. THR said that Modern Family, Grey's and The Middle will total to 24 episodes this season after the additional episodes order, Castle is having 23. I thought Modern Family and Grey's already got a 24 episode order in May. So, shouldn't it be 26? I don't know.

ABC are having a rough run this season. They really needed to follow up some of their successes last season with a couple more hits this year and it hasn't happened so far. Nashville and Last Resort were the best hopes and they seem to be in trouble. Private Practice has now reached the end of the road and Dancing With The Stars (a far bigger problem) looks like it could follow shortly.

Then again, it has been a poor fall across the board. Only NBC and maybe the CW (thanks to Arrow) have room to be happy. NBC were always going to do well out of football and The Voice but despite a slightly shaky premiere The Voice is looking pretty steady and there's no sign of any decline this season (it's down but the damage was done in March-May). I think it'll hold better this cycle as well. Plus, they've got Revolution out of it and that's looking like a solid hit (in a way that Smash never really was). They've got massive issues Wednesday and Thursday (and perhaps Sunday when football ends). But in some ways I think it makes sense to quarantine their problems and focus on building one night at a time.

CBS are having a bad one as well. Monday is weakened, Vegas and Elementary aren't that convincing. Made in Jersey and Partners flopped outright. Sundays are still a mess.

No shows pulled over a million last night in Australia but the highest show of the night for the second friday running wasn't the news but New Tricks on ABC1, pulling in 0.99m

Not quite sure if its slightly lower figures are down to the change in timeslot or the slight change in cast because it is capable of these figures in repeats on Saturdays at 7.30. However it is still up on what homegrown Miss Fisher's murder mysteries was getting in that slot back in April/May.

The shift that has occured in the last few months with ABC finally mounting a significant challenge to Ten and constantly beating it into third place is well deserved. In some respects its much closer to public broadcasting than the BBC, largely providing content that the commercial networks don't. This isn't knocking the BBC as the market is different in the UK, and has always been BBC and ITV as the big two, and BBC1 at least is designed too bring in big audiences. But in Australia ABC1 really provides a point of difference. Monday's have quality current affairs where the commerrcial networks play out their big hitters, Tuesday is probably the weakest and less coherent night of the week, veering from Agatha Christie repeats to serious documentaries to travelouges. Wednesdays see ccomedy night, the nly network that produces australian comedy on a serious level and nurtures talent. Thursdays are heavy hitting dramas with cntent that wouldn't be mainstream enough for the commercial networks or appeal to the wrong demos. Barring sport, on Fridays and Saturdays ABC1 is the only network that makes an effort, usually showing British imports. And then on Sundays there is less coherence but largely they put on their big hitters.

Its a shame ITV went and messed up the Bill, which used to do exceptional well in Aus even up until the end, giving something decent to watch on Saturday nights. ABC1 still have success in the 7.30 slot largely with Doc Martin and New Tricks, but I can't help thinking that perhaps they should do what SBS do with WDYTYA on a Tuesday and just show New Tricks all year round, providing a decent lead in for the 8.30 slot. 10 series in there must be 80 episodes at least by now, which means almost a 2 year rotation.

Talking of SBS they are showing all of the 7UP series in the run up to 56up on SBS2. I'm presuming this is something ITV wouldn't have done because of a lack of interest?

It never really caught on and was underperforming so I'm not surprised. There's also speculation the US X Factor could be heading for cancellation.

Bottom line - Broadcast weakens, cable getting stronger.

With dramas from Showtime (Dexter, Homeland), FX (American Horror Story) and other dramas making "record-breaking numbers", especially during the fall season, they are really breaking into the competition. It was usually like that with few dramas over the years, but now more and more cable dramas are making way for success. It won't be too long before CW's comeback season might be hindered by ABC Family dramas. However, if The Carrie Diaries and other new dramas can pull what Arrow is doing, ABC Family might be challenged this season.

Returning to broadcast, ABC is really unlucky this season. With Last Resort, it continues with the Thursday 8pm curse. Even though it was well reviewed, it still is overlooked. I mean, it tied with The Vampire Diaries last week! Nashville, I predicted was going to be a hit. But the huge fall they experienced this week was a huge shock. I think they were hoping Nashville was the breakout drama this season, it now looks to be backfired and approaching its danger zone.

Revolution is doing fine on NBC, for now. The bleeding stopped this week, but we will just have to see how the rest of the year pans out. If we learned anything from The Event and FlashForward (ABC) was that drama like these have lack of commitment as the season goes by. The most likely reason being the confusing/declining storyline. Smash was another prime example. They started off good and was well received but it got worse as the show progressed - numbers slid down heaps and critics turned their back on the show.

As for CBS, since none of the new shows are standouts, they can just rely on their usual, good suspects to carry them home. Even if Monday is weakening, at least HIMYM and 2 Broke Girls carry some weight to the lineup. FOX is having a mess of a year right now. TXF not being a "dominant king", dramas eroding quickly and new shows not having breakthrough. I think FOX just placed The Mob Doctor in November sweeps, just to prove the naysayers wrong. On TVbyTN, one commenter said it was just to "piss off the website" as the show had numerous polls on "which show will replace The Mob Doctor" and "Touch delayed, so what happens to The Mob Doctor?"

I used to think that ABC1 was making an effort on Friday and Saturdays, but looking at how they underperformed this year, I think these two days are the only days that ABC1 can not only do well but challenge Nine and Seven, after already overtaking Ten.

I have no idea what SBS motives are with airing Boardwalk Empire on Saturdays. I don't think they are even new episodes or close to it! At least they are not like Seven by kidding themselves placing Killing Time and Smash on Sundays and Mondays respectively, when it already aired on Foxtel way earlier on in the year. I also think SBS Two is making some effort this year by placing new international titles such as The Bridge.

According to some posters, ABC has stopped promoting 666 Park Avenue in it's Sunday show promo. Only Revenge and Once Upon a Time are being promoted.

The ratings for 'Doctors' seem to change quite a lot from day to day. With each epixode usually having a self contained story it doesn't require a regular commitment. I assume a fair number of viewers must just watch it occasionally, which is pretty much what I do.

I think the rise of ABC is good, and could keep Seven and Nine more on their toes. Maybe its daylght saving kicking in, but there is barely a gap between ABC, Seven and Nine News at the moment, and hopefully this should tell Seven and Nine to up their quality because viewers are turning off. There are also various rumours about Seven's early evening schedule, with the news maybe extending to an hour, no confirmation of Deal returning, Price is right being shafted to 3pm but only in Melbourne, and rumours even about Today Tonight's longevity. Given ratings drop between the News and today Tonight (same with Nine and ACA - probably because both TT and ACA are nothing better than a televised Daily Mail and Daily Express), Seven maybe want to increase the lead in for Home and Away which is constantly falling below a million. Plus for all of Ten's faults they always win the 5pm hour, so Seven ay want to attack that. If the rumoured changes are afoot, I wouldn't be overly surprised if Seven would try

As for SBS, I can only imagine they picked up Broadwalk Empire cheap, and they do seem to be having success with the prohibition documentary tht is on beforehand (which may even be the reason they purchased Empire). The only thing I don't get is why double episodes. As for SBS2, I think Foreign language drama are a good idea, fits extremely well with the brand, and better of on SBS2 than SBS1

Yesterday the service I was working there was problems galore, a customer rightly complained and said ' it's always excuses, excuses, excuses where Virgin Trains are concerned' the customer is right as am I when I say it's always excuses,excuses,excuses when Eastenders poor form is defended.

At this time of the year it should be improving, this past big event week has failed to bring the gap between it and Corrie closer and simply put again its not acceptable, please don't make excuses for Newman as there are none, her failure to stop and alter Kirkwoods stuff because of cast concerns about over work/pressure is laughable and again a poor excuse, it's time she removed her head from Kirkwoods long departed ass and do what the BBC pay her for, to stop the decline.

And don't be so pedantic over the date he was removed from the post of EE, the mess is still his fault and to an extent Newmans fault as well as she would be party to the decisions he made.
