It's not a big enough drama to survive being flung up against New Tricks, I don't think, Spooks had a loyal audience and was a famous show so it could cope with Downton, this certainly isn't. It's the kind of scheduling you do for about the fifth series of a show, not one that still hasn't taken off. It seems a bit of a waste, too, because I assume James Nesbitt doesn't come cheap.


But it is on at 11.10, though, and everyone's presumably read all the explosive bits in the papers. It was mentioned briefly on the old thread but Who Do You Think You Are has been postponed tomorrow as well for a Panorama, not on that story, which I'm not sure is the best idea, I know all the 9pm slots are booked up with long-running series but I don't know if it's so big a story it needs to be flung on ASAP, after the TV guides have gone to press.

It's not unheard of for documentaries to get shoved on early, of course. I remember in 1998, BBC1 and ITV both did documentaries about England vs Argentina in that year's World Cup, the BBC scheduled theirs at 9.30 on a Wednesday and so, as a spoiler, ITV shoved theirs on at 10.40 the previous night, unbilled in the Radio Times, just so they could prove they'd done it first. And it just meant both got bloody awful ratings.

And tomorrow's schedule on ITV means we get News at When again, and then again next Tuesday so they can show Mamma Mia! With the football next Friday that means we get News at Ten not at ten three times in eight days. Not good.

also there is no way, the BBC needed a 3rd primetime medical series. Holby Blue, at least took place away from the Hospital.

The problem with Holby Blue, of course, is that it wasn't enough like Holby City to appeal to fans of Holby City and nobody else watched it because they assumed it would just be the same as Holby City. They tried to have their cake and eat it with that, trying to launch a new drama - because I know the writers and producers said it was going to be completely different - while also leeching off an old one.

And whatever the ratings may be, you'll still be here, like a broken record, saying the show is dead and it should join Love Island and all your other favourites in TV heaven. Whilst you did manage to shoehorn in a reference to ratings with a bold and predictably gloomy prediction for the future, this basically boils down to throwing stones at a show you don't personally like, which is more tedious than it is constructive. Not a fan myself but your repeated posts on the subject make me want Shipwrecked to come back!

You were one of the biggest critics of BB's loyal 1.2m-1.5m a night Sunday to Friday opposite the Olympics and all sorts of other big events of national importance. But how have they been doing against less fierce competition since? Apart from CSI: Miami on Saturday, most of their primetime offerings have logged audiences of under a million since Thursday. And they won't have anywhere near as attractive demos as BB either. Nor will they offer as many different revenue streams.

So it's easy to see why it's safe for a couple more years at least. And with so many naysayers next summer could be a right hoot around this place if BB does the unthinkable and actually increases its audience, as it threatened to do at the beginning of BB13 before dodgy production decisions and the sporting onslaught conspired against it.

Maybe the truth of the matter is the idea of BB's future being pretty secure on C5 is an uncomfortable one around here because it makes them more competitive (especially CBB) and that rocks the boat a bit amongst those who like the natural order of things to be maintained? Just a thought.

I think people are looking at Two and a Half Men's switch to Thursday far too heavily from one side. The general thought on this has been that CBS want to strengthen Thursday night (which is certainly true) but its also worth remembering that Two and a Half Men was stumbling by the end of last season. I suspect part of the reason for moving it to Thursday was to try and keep it relatively strong and avoid a situation where it would sink and take the rest of Monday night with it. On Thursday it can do less damage and its less likely to collapse with a Big Bang Theory lead-in. A lead-in that hasn't helped to launch any new shows so far.

Additionally whilst 2 Broke Girls hasn't set the world alight on Monday night the real important question is – would Two and a Half Men be doing noticeably better? I suspect the answer to that is no. I think this is probably the kind of level we'd be seeing Two and a Half Men at so there's really no indication that CBS has actually lost anything from this scheduling. Thursday is likely a little stronger than it might otherwise be and Monday is pretty where it would be regardless.


There is at least method to NBC's madness though which can't be said about Channel 4. They may very well be running a huge risk of over exposing The Voice and burning the audience out on it but they're doing it to give themselves a strong launch platform for new shows – in this instance new drama and comedy and its worked. Revolution and Go On in particular have been their best launches in years and they appear (from early signs) to be sustaining. Its a calculated gamble. Unlike Channel 4 who just throw Million Pound Drop onto the schedule seemingly to fill space.

ITV will be spitting feathers at this Man United defense. Paul O'Grady could lead an army of dogs through it.

Higher ratings expected for this match now.

It'll give CBS pause for thought for what gets the Superbowl lead in, I reckon it'll be The Job which a new CBS reality show but they could go for a comedy which is probably wise than say an episode of Person of Interest.

There are signs of improvement on screen, but it's going to take several months for them to be reflected in the ratings.

No one should underestimate the mess EastEnders was left in a few months ago.

The big question is whether there'll be any fake video game footage in the new series of Exposure...

Yet it was rating better than it now. This has happened before; where soaps bizarrely see a decline during the revival rather than rough period.

and that is a far enough thing to say, but its more important that it starts to be good and enjoyable to watch again. Once that starts to be the case (and continues to be) viewers will come, as tends to happen with soaps, when they get out of a rough patch.

Hopefully the big Branning Christmas, will bring viewers back, and that they stay in the new year.

Yep, I think a fair few people just gave up when they saw no improvement in sight.

Quite surprised they managed to strike a deal for repeats of an imported series on 4Seven - so often they're restricted to pretty much one showing on the original broadcast channel, especially cable dramas.


LOL - C4 were the only broadcaster to benefit from it. I agree though they'd rather blame BARB than themselves for how shit C4 is rating at the moment.


Good news, and hope the BBC don't win them back as quite honestly they benefitted hugely from being away from the BBC and getting somewhat lost in the sporting calendar.


Interesting, but if that's the case it needs to include the final (ideally on ITV1), but it wouldn't be in BT's interests to give that up. I don't think they've any intention really of selling on any games - probably more a bargain chip to try and validate their dodgy deal.

That sounds a bit dodgy to me. BT buy the games then sell a few to ITV for them to show? Shouldn't it just be BT showing it?

They're muppets if they thought their drizzling craps schedule with Comedy World Cup on a Saturday and Baggage on a Friday would work.

Downton is suitable to screen before the 9 o'clock watershed - I assume, considering each episode is repeated the following Sunday at teatime.

Maybe they could stick on a repeat of the Exposure Jimmy Savile documentay at 9.30 and get a big rating against Andrew's Marred documentary. Or they could put on a documentary about people farting. I'm sure that would beat Marr in the ratings as well.
