Tried to catch up on sundays posts but it's difficult on a phone at 2am! X Factor is doing badly this series - it's definitely not just a hangover from last year anymore. The bad launch inevitable because they failed to make changes or communicate any kind of improvement. But it's getting worse. They obviously need to make huge changes but I do wonder if they've left it too late.
I'm not sure Cowell returning is at all likely. FOX are extremely unlikely to agree to it and i'm not even convinced he'd want to do xf uk again. Take Me Out is doing 1.3m 16-34's and has almost twice the skew of other (non event) ITV ent series. It might be helping out Strictly by freeing up old viewers but it's doing a lot better than the basic numbers suggest. Complementary scheduling! Strictly steady and strong. A live Sunday resuts next year will most likely be possible as Bruno and Len probably won't be travelling next year. Eventually it will decline but that's true for any show. When this thread started in 2007 Robbie was predicting the demise of xf and 5 years later it's just back to those levels. ITV are unlikely to compete strongly in the timeslot and there are no similar formats coming along to cause it trouble. Although i'm sure that with dancing with the stars and so you think... on their way out there will be producers pitching new dance ideas in the us. That being said, Celebrity Splash could be seen as more of a rival than a dance format like sytycd? |

I think you are better at this then you think. Thanks Ken.
Another day with no programmes breaking the 1million barrier on Channel 5 disappoints me. I have always been a fan of more money being thrown into the schedules by Desmond, but something isn't working at the moment. It seems most of the money has gone into Big Bro which has paid dividends for the channel, but at the detriment of the rest of their schedules. I do think they have made a massive effort on new documentaries in the 8pm hour which are very worthy PSB, and this should be applauded. I just feel they have such a low viewing base from 7pm which is effecting the rest of the evening. Perhaps, now is the time to refresh the scheduling of the top US imports as they seem to be hit and miss at the moment. Also, perhaps some money being pumped into original scripted comedy and drama is now the way forward. Also, getting in more FTA sport such as the boxing which is serving well for the channel at the moment. One trick would be vertical m programming, a big winner early in the evening followed by less expensive material that keeps the same audience hooked. Instead the schedule hops all over the place. Once people change channel it's hard to get them back. Monday: Home And Away (kids/women) Cowboy Builders (general adult appeal) Classic Car Rescure (kids and Mum want to change channel, many Dads agree) Terminator 3 (too late for kids, Dad has seen it). |

Channel 5 should be a winner. It is run by someone from outside the stale old broadcasting elite who is not a RADA/Oxbridge luvvie, clawed his way up by selling popular products and has no shareholders or committees to answer to. Desmond can say JDI and that's it.

XF is on from 20:20 to 22:15 on Saturday, I don't think they've learnt their lesson on the fact a late finish hampers the ratings a bit, and they would lose viewers by that time.

BGT wasn't up y-o-y: Here are the series averages (official ratings):
2012: 10.18m (inc +1: 10.64m) 2011: 10.53m (inc +1: 10.92m) Not dramatically down granted - but it was still down. BGT did have a good year though in terms of what you've mentioned. I can see BGT having another successful year if the panel remains the same. |

Take Me Out must be an advertiser's dream with so many young people watching. But its getting some of its lowest ratings ever right now. |

I think XF would have managed a near 12m peak last night (inc +1) especially as the week before managed 11.7m.

Looks like ITV are fighting the Savile Panorama with David Cameron as a guest on Tom Bradby's political chatter show at 10.35. Most unusual for a party leader, and particularly a PM, to appear on such programmes.
It being ITV, Julian Downton Fellowes is also on.... |

What has this got to do with anything. The PM on The Agenda would have been prepared weeks in advance. The BBC have decided to air Panorama at 10.35 as late as yesterday.
![]() My point was that its unusual to see a notable high profile battle, between two serious shows, in the 10.30 slot..... |

So XF peaked at 10.83m without +1, and averaged 9.3m (without +1)? The peak is still higher than Strictly's however, but down on last week.

Surprise surprise rated well, if it can get 4.5m against strictly, imagine the ratings it could've got against normal competition. Maybe 5.5m. It's a hit
