Wonder what Mike Smith (a TV ever-present once in a while) is up to these days?”
He's rolling in it, he runs Flying TV, a company that supplies helicopters to TV companies so whenever there's a bit of aerial filming on the telly, it's almost certainly from one of his choppers - and often he flies them himself as well. So well done to him. Certainly he's doing much better now than in the mid-nineties when he applied to be controller of BBC1 and there used to be an advert in Broadcast every week saying "MIKE SMITH - award-winning presenter for hire". Went off him and Sarah a bit when they humourlessly complained when Cheggers went to their house on The Big Breakfast, mind.
As Seen On TV, the not very interesting telly quiz with Steve Jones from the other year, was referred to everywhere as the new Telly Addicts but if anything it was a revival of That's Showbusiness with its teams of celebrities answering questions, right down to the team captains being a comedian against a mumsy TV presenter. Although Jason Manford and Kenny Everett aren't really in the same league, I feel.

I'm amazed I'm more positive about a C5 rating than Dancc but I think that rating's far worse for C4 than C5, this is supposed to be a major event with all the big C4 names that has been stripped across the week and promoted to death, it should be getting ratings up there with the likes of Grand Designs, not failing to beat Channel Five. Hotel GB reminds me of Home For The Holidays, an attempt to create an event by stripping it across a week without an obvious hook or point to it.
