strong ratings for Ice Age, and Downton, decent peak for X-Factor as well.

Doctor Who shows is strength in the officials.

Poor old Southampton and Fulham.

Outrated by El Classico.

I'm still going Wow at the peak for Xtra Factor, I think Sunday's show will be the strong point for them. If the peak share without +1 is 40%, I would presume with +1 added, that would be around 42%.

The Chase holding up well, though I would have hoped for 5m considering it was the funniest show for quite some time, Dick Tingeler

Once Upon a Time did very well.

The Mentalist however, is not taking to Sunday nights at all. Pains me to say it but I think this will be the last season. CBS are to blame.

It was only on in the background and I was not listening. Just heard something akin to ' like Jimmy Saville' and cue laughter.

Saw a thread on here about Only Fools (as in BBC daytime repeating it for the second time in a year) and noticed within moments that someone had already commented in there on this joke and others suggesting it to explain the switcheroo over episodes from last week to this.Which I had not even noticed.

So TXF is down 0.1m excluding +1 week-on-week but achieved a higher peak. I think people probably switched on about 8.50pm when Facebook and Twitter went into meltdown. I've just watched the judges verdict part back and all I want to say is how brilliantly Dermot handled the whole situation as the chaos took over the whole show. He was getting quite angry at Louis towards the end (but you can't blame him - someone was probably shouting in his ear). Dermot is a great presenter and over the years has handled these situations very well. I can also remember Kate Thornton been in the same boat when it started when the judges couldn't decide who to send home and she always dealt with it pretty well too.

The Xtra Factor received a massive boost as viewers obviously wanted to watch the fallout. The question now is, where will it go from here...up or down?! The ratings are going to be very interesting moving forward. As for Homeland. I wanted to see a bigger figure than that. Its a brilliant show and putting it up against DA is a very risky move indeed.

Here's a look at how the four main broadcasters did in the BARB Monthly Shares for September 2012:

BBC
BBC1: 19.3% (September 2011: 19.6%), BBC2: 5.8% (6.1%), BBC3: 1.4% (1.4%), BBC4: 0.9% (0.7%), BBC HD: 0.2% (0.2%), BBC News: 1.0% (1.0%), BBC RB: 0.1% (0.1%), CBBC: 0.6% (0.8%), CBeebies: 1.2% (1.3%)
--> Total: 30.5% (September 2011: 31.2%)

ITV
ITV1: 16.5% (17.6%), ITV2: 3.0% (3.1%), ITV3: 2.4% (2.1%), ITV4: 1.1% (1.0%), CITV: 0.4% (0.3%)
--> Total: 23.4% (September 2011: 24.1%)

Channel 4
C4: 7.2% (6.8%), E4: 2.1% (1.8%), Film4: 1.3% (1.7%), More4: 1.4% (1.1%), 4Music: 0.3% (0.4%), 4Seven: 0.3% (n/a)

Boosted by the Paralympic Games, Channel 4 (+8%) was the only broadcaster up year-on-year, managing their best family share since July 2008 (12.8%). The other broadcasters slipped year-on-year: BBC (-2%), ITV (-3%), Channel 5 (-5%).

In terms of terrestrial channels, Channel 4 (+6%) was the only one up year on year, posting the channel's best monthtly share since February 2011 (7.5%). All other terrestrial channels were down: BBC1 (-2%), BBC2 (-5%), C5 (-9% or -2% inc +1), ITV1 (-6%).

In terms of the multichannels, BBC4 (+28%) showed the most improvement from the BBC channels. The childrens' channels (-14% overall) struggled for a second month in a row. For ITV, ITV2 (-3%) slipped but ITV3 (+14%) and CITV (+33%) grew. Over to CH4, E4 (+17%) had a very strong month - its joint best since July 2007 (2.2%). While Film4 (-24%) experienced a big decline, More4 (+27%) was up vs a year ago for the first time in 11 months. For CH5, 5USA (-10%) and 5* (-17%) were both down y-o-y.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
And here's a look at how the broadcasters have averaged for the first nine months of 2012 (January to September) vs. the same period last year:

ITV: 22.2% (22.7%)
CH4: 11.5% (11.7%)
CH5: 6.1% (6.0%)

Two million combined figure for Neighbours in the officials from Monday 24th September. Also 1.95 million for both the Tuesday and Wednesday eps.

Highest this year?

I think viewers are more than in on the joke with The X Factor and very early on treated it as a piece of entertainment rather than a genuine search for the next big superstar.

Normally I'd admire their courage but it's clearly just foolish as it NEVER works. Homeland's rating is hopeful but a wasted opportunity. Choose your battles!”

Exactly - at times channels do need to do their own thing and not run scared of the competition, but realistically that competition needs to be considered and the times to take on the big guns at the BBC and ITV need to be limited really to things like the soaps and faltering hits - not the shows which are currently the biggest shows on TV. Even with it's falling ratings The X Factor is still one of the top three series all year.

C4 scheduling is completely devoid now of bright ideas. Digging an even bigger hole for themselves is far more fun apparently.”

8 out of 10 Cats on a Monday makes no sense at all. Friday NIght Dinner on a Sunday makes no sense at all. Comedy World Cup on a Saturday makes no sense at all.

C4 yet again making a flop out of a hit, especially with Friday Night Dinner.

Sorry Hassaan, but it's getting frustrating when people respond to your posts, yet you ignore the replies and continue anyway.

It's like banging against a brick wall.

Anyway, Corrie has a new series producer: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/soaps/s3...-producer.html

Considering the effect Blackburn has had on Emmerdale's ratings, it will be interesting to see what happens here when his work begins to air on screen in the New Year.

I think Xtra Factor will pass 2m in the officials, which would be the first time since the 'Xtra Factor final result' on 11 December 2010.

I haven't seen the episode for years, but I think it's a joke about a Savile-esque piece of male jewellery.

Decent Enough for X Factor. I can see the officials making great ratings.

I think SCD is going to trounce them this year though.

Antiques Roadshow seems to be suffering a bit of annual ratings deflation. Still a good rating mind.

Very strong rating for Ice Age 3. Guess we're getting into that early darkness family film season now.

American Dad did well there. It has struggled in the past but it is good to see new episodes outrating the repeats of Family Guy, rather than the other way round.

Why did The Simpsons air their Halloween episode last night? According to Wikipedia they have an episode on 21st October - would have made more sense to air it then.

I thought that this issue had been sorted on this thread a long time ago but over the last few weeks a number of posters keep posting consolidated figures by adding ITV1+ITVHD+ITV1+1. This is wrong AFAIK because Barb figures for ITV1 already include HD and you do not add them in again. I remember this being discussed on here before so I think all these figures are wrong. Can we have this sorted once and for all? Can somebody in the know tel me if I am right or wrong?

The bit in bold is incorrect.

BBC1, C4 and C5 are bundled together; ITV and ITV1 HD are separate because of advertising. (its been explained a few times by trickytree, but too complicated for me. )

With the success of the Paralympics, maybe Channel 4 should consider expanding beyond its main sports contract of horse racing, although getting the Grand National from the BBC should guarantee them a very big hit every year. In the past the main channel has shown athletics, cricket, foreign football and extreme sports.
