Nigella went in the opposite direction. She started at C4 and is now at BBC 2 though she did have a flop daytime chatshow on ITV1 in between.

Jamie wasn't poached though, the BBC wouldn't give him another show because of him contract with Sainsbury's.

Bad news, bud. I've had confirmation through that the show is going on the dreaded "mid-series break" and will be replaced by Body of Proof from w/c 23rd October. We're already miles behind US transmission, so this is quite possibly the worst idea they've ever had. And on a personal note I'm cross because I've been getting into the show more and more these past couple of weeks. Last night's episode was the best yet. I don't understand the impatience when there are bigger problems in the schedule.

Are the ratings good enough for the Tuesday 9pm slot? No. Should it be put on a break? Hell no! Just move it to another night. It could affect ratings for other imports on the channel if they carry on like this.

Aha! The One Show!

US RATINGS
NBC saw week on week and year on year rises last night, with all shows above a 2... They also beat FOX in the 9pm comedy wars. Over at ABC, DWTS continues to struggle at just above a 2 and Private Practice isn't getting any healthier, but both were even with last week. That clip show is an awful start for the night. Meanwhile Fox carries on destroying its chances of a #2 placing at the end of the year, although steady, the numbers aren't great. CBS had nearly double NBC's viewers, but less in the demo with NCIS down almost half a point, still a great night, but I'm sure with total viewer numbers like those, they wish a few more 18-49's watched. Finally the CW did what they do best, lose the night with an average of 0.3!!

Better for Eastenders yesterday. Its desperately trying to crawl to 8m but will it get there? I might tune in next month to see the car crash explosion thingy. I like to see young characters killed off. Bloody dead wood in my opinion. Even the real young think the EE young are deadwood.

I'd replace them with buses. Much more interesting.

More4 has acquired the rights to Nashville (ABC) and Scandal (ABC).

More4 have picked up Nashville (http://www.tvwise.co.uk/2012/10/more...bcs-nashville/) and Scandal (http://www.tvwise.co.uk/2012/10/more...eries-scandal/) I'm glad they've both are airing over here, but I think Nashville would have been better on Channel 4, Scandal is brilliant but would never have got a big audience so More4 is the best place for it.

Brilliant for the Great British Bake Off, which is looking unstoppable just at the minute. It's perfect for BBC2 though, and should stay there. Besides, with over 5m still, Holby is coping pretty well. Decent for The Paradise to hold its numbers week-to-week as well. It ought to stabilise there, and having watched the last couple of episodes I can't see why not. It seems like pretty accessible, entertaining, soft period fluff.

In the US, thats just another terrific night for NBC. They couldn't have asked for more. The Voice is showing some real resilience, even in the 8pm hour, and the boost that Go On was able to take from it was remarkable. Yes, I've no doubt TV is going to burn out eventually (and probably more quickly than it would have once a year) but thats an entirely necessary sacrifice. Right now, the show is propping up a two new shows which have become the networks biggest drama and comedy, respectively. That's exactly what it's meant to do.

Fox's early pick up of the Mindy Project and Ben & Kate seems to suggest they're going to stick it out with a two hour comedy block, but after a while those results are going to be really unpalatable. The biggest danger is if New Girl continues to decline due to the uselessness of it's companions - it was the only real bright spot for Fox last season and they could wind up shooting it in the foot by insisting it props up a 4-show comedy block. "Running before you can walk" springs to mind.

With US shows in mind, ITV2 has to be feeling pretty burnt by it's recent entrance into the US broadcast comedy market. Animal Practice and Ben & Kate are looking like one season flings, at best, and Up All Night's chances of getting it past Season 2 seem slim as well. They could easily wind up back at square one with nothing to show for the three pick-ups by next summer. Unlucky. Or bad buying. Or maybe both.

Incidentally, after having recently taken out a new Radio Times subscription because my local shop doesn't keep a good stock of TV mags, I've started receiving their monthly subscriber magazine again, and the October issue has Selfridge down for an October start, but I think ITV might have changed their minds now.

In a sign of how well it is doing, The Chase was 0.01m up on Monday, and again above 3 million yesterday. Fantastic also for The Great British Bake Off, although I suspect the large rise was due to Mamma Mia.

Is ITV's News at Ten usually that low on Tuesdays, or did Mamma Mia's 10.10pm finish knock it even lower than usual?

Much better for Eastenders last night and it is good to see Holby over 5m. I don't think Bake Off is denting it that much as Holby has been down year-on-year quite a bit all year, but it does tend fluctuate in rhythm with the Eastenders ratings beforehand. Last October Holby averaged 5.51m (24.1%) in the overnights. At 9pm The Paradise seems to have stabilized at a reasonable level to be returnable.


That is a supreme rating. Next week could be looking at a 6million or higher average for the final


Decent rating for Emmerdale last night however I think Mamma Mia has run its course in repeatable value for ITV1 now. It should live on in a healthy run of ratings for multichannel though.


It never ceases to amaze me how well these detective repeats do on ITV3.

BBC One should definately take Great British Bake Off and show it at 9o'clock where itd get 6-7million viewers. This show would destroy the competition if BBC puts it on the main channel. BBC one should introduce this GBBO format to the masses to take over the fact/ent mantle on the channel when Apprentice finishes in next few years.

Quite annoyed that Channel5 are taking a break with Person of Interest. Its not getting great ratings but at least it is similar every week and they shouldve shown it on another night if they think they can do better on Tuesdays with Bodyof Proof.

Wonder why 'Junior Bake-Off' doesn't do as well on CBBC in the ratings, only appears to manage 300k. Maybe these ratings for Great British Bake Off will boost it.

I wish they would repost Part 3 (ratings thread), I just want to see the reaction here for the ratings of the BGT 2009, people must have been really shocked at the 19m peak.

Absolute stunning for GBBO. It really is at Top Gear levels now (indeed last night's overnight was higher than anything TGI has managed for a while). Anyone else think that rating for Ian Hislop's show is a bit crap considering the lead-in though? Think it should be a little higher.

The Paradise holding steady but rubbish for the lazy Mamma Mia repeat. The Chase is doing absolutely brilliantly at 5pm.

The big mistake they made was not giving it another reboot at the beginning of series 8, with most people agreeing that the show needed a new family at the centre of it. Instead they just bought in a number of individual characters that weren't really connected to each other - and didn't connect with viewers.



Incidently "Continuoisly Poaching" was the show they had him lined up to present.

Absolutely agree though - it's been ages since C4 found it's own star, and I think if Hotel GB did nothing else it certainly highlighted how unwise C4's poaching of lifestyle stars over the years has been.




Scandal looks rather dull but suited to More4, while Nashville could be a country Glee!


And to think Tuesdays used to be so strong. Double your House is the best Sarah Beeny series in a while IMO but feels ten years too late (notice she has a new series beginning on More4 next Tuesday at 9pm). Jewish Mum of the Year sounds like it's something from the Alan Partridge school of thought, while based on ratings Fresh Meat was a surprise recommission and IMO though it rated slightly worse I thought Sirens had more potential to grow as a returning series - but really neither of them cut it.

Arguably too C4's lack of imported drama in the weeknight 10pm slot isn't helping it's few original drama series either. There are many factors but C4 just isn't the first place viewers not wanting to watch the news probably look at now at 10pm - and I think that's as much down to C4 letting the slot die as it is increased digital competition.

I tell you what I miss on TV nowadays. Holiday programs. The BBC's Holiday was great. I'm humming the simon May version off the theme tune right now.

Ignore the Leyland Olympian (What a great bus!) It's the theme music you wan't to listen to. Brings me back to the 80's when things were just shit! Oh! Come to think off it ,that bus was probably the best thing about the 80's. I used to get that to work every day and to see my now wife.
