More much needed good news for The CW which averaged 3.3m and a 1.4 rating among adults 18-49. The Vampire Diaries was up a tenth from last year to a 1.6 rating while Beauty and the Beast matched the series premiere of The Secret Circle with a 1.3. Of course, as TSC showed, a decent premiere might not count for much come next April.
With the VP debate covering 9-11pm on the big 4 networks the only hour in play was 8pm which was generally down. X Factor slipped two tenths to a 2.9, its lowest of the season, The Big Bang Theory was down seven tenths to a 4.2, Two and a Half Men was down two tenths to a 3.4, Last Resort is really in bother now losing 3 tenths to post a 1.6. Awful for NBC again with 30 Rock on a 1.4 and Up All Night posting a woeful 1.2 meaning The CW comfortably beat NBC in the 8pm hour and tied ABC. |

There is a problem when Channel 5's top rating and biggest share all day, is a 5.30pm repeat of Neighbours

The Plane Crash was an interesting example of using social media to promote a show. They had the wheeze of inviting people to book a virtual seat on the flight, then look afterwards to see if they would have survived or not.
For an hour or so before it started, people were tweeting "I'm in seat 52A" etc, others saw it, asked what it was about, and went to book their own seats. #planecrash was top of the trending list for most of the show. There was also a bit of backlash from people without Facebook accounts, who couldn't participate. |

Channel 5 should be doing 1m at least at 9pm, I think Hatfields should do okay but I can't imagine it being the smash hit it was in the US.
The thing about Person of Interest is that while it's not hitting the heights of CSI or NCIS, it's not doing that badly considering it debuted to 1.4m back in August, 1.15m for the latest episode isn't much of a drop. |

Cuckoo isn't doing as well as I thought it should. With an opening (overnight) rating of 1.15m and 6% share, I would have expected it to increase that rating + share, but instead it's dropped, with 789k in the second week and 593k on Tuesday.
Also, Russell Howard's Good News, despite the hype it appears to be getting over the internet, doesn't translate well in the ratings. A decent opener with 989k, then since it's dropped to around 600k. Will probably still make the top 10 in the officials but it deserves over a million every week, considering it is in it's seventh series. It's only made #1 in BBC3's weekly ranking twice, for the 8 April 2010 episode, and the 3 May (2012) episode. I would expect it to beat EE repeats and Family Guy considering it's among BBC Three's original programming. In terms of CITV: 1 HORRID HENRY (SUN 0925) 240 2 HORRID HENRY (MON 1617) 226 3 HORRID HENRY (TUE 1616) 221 4 GOOD LUCK CHARLIE (SUN 0901) 217 5 HORRID HENRY (SAT 1301) 202 6 BIG TIME RUSH (SUN 0835) 200 7 ALMOST NAKED ANIMALS (SUN 1014) 199 8 HORRID HENRY (SAT 0820) 195 9 HORRID HENRY (WED 1616) 194 10 HORRID HENRY (THU 1617) 185 I think that's the first time a number of their programming is over 200k. Some of the Disney/Nickelodeon imports are doing quite well aswell. I wonder how many of these programmes on CBeebies during that week were actually new. 1 CHARLIE AND LOLA (WED 1811) 582 2 DRIVER DAN'S STORY TRAIN (WED 1759) 518 3 ABNEY AND TEAL (MON 1747) 500 4 CHARLIE AND LOLA (MON 1812) 499 5 DRIVER DAN'S STORY TRAIN (MON 1800) 492 6 OCTONAUTS (TUE 1659) 488 7 ABNEY AND TEAL (TUE 1746) 484 8 TREE FU TOM (MON 1724) 483 9 TREE FU TOM (TUE 1724) 482 10 GRANDPA IN MY POCKET (MON 1647) 452 Lowest on that is 400k, and nearly 600k for the highest. One of it's programming had 1.16m back in December (Xmas Panto). Almost completely thrashes CBBC though: 1 WOLFBLOOD (MON 1717) 416 2 WOLFBLOOD (TUE 1718) 411 3 FILM: HOTEL FOR DOGS (2008) (WED 1657) 376 4 THE SCOOBY DOO SHOW (FRI 1559) 313 5 THE STORY OF TRACY BEAKER (MON 1700) 287 6 THE SCOOBY DOO SHOW (TUE 1602) 277 7 THE SCOOBY DOO SHOW (MON 1601) 266 8 THE STORY OF TRACY BEAKER (THU 1703) 264 9 THE STORY OF TRACY BEAKER (TUE 1701) 263 10 DANI'S HOUSE (SUN 1130) 262 |

Spoiler
Children, especially very young ones, are forgiving of repeats! Tree Fu Tom was the nearest thing to a new show, having premiered two weeks earlier. Incidentally, the Programmes website is due to be enhanced early next year, and include information on every BBC TV and radio programme ever broadcast, not just back to 2007. |

Here's the details about T4 going: Quote:
Channel 4 is dropping the T4 brand after 14 years as it begins the search for a Friday night music show to refresh its youth programming.
The brand, produced by Shine’s Princess Productions, will come to an end in December. It initially launched on Sundays and was later expanded to both Saturdays and Sundays on C4. But the brand was moved onto E4 only after the launch of magazine show Sunday Brunch – also produced by Princess. Talent such as Demot O’Leary, Vernon Kay, Simon Amstell, Alexa Chung, Rick Edwards and Nick Grimshaw have all done stints on T4, often in the early part of their careers. Head of formats Dominic Bird is now looking for three music shows to pilot in the new year, which will be scheduled for Friday nights in 2013. The decision reflects the decline of the T4 audience as a result of E4, which has become the broadcaster’s main brand for the 16-34 audience. Bird will work with C4 music commissioner Jonathan Rothery, who recently joined from Sky, and commissioning executive Steven Edwards to brief producers on the music tender. “This is an incredibly exciting opportunity to develop a credible popular music show for Friday nights and the pilots reflect our continued ambition to provide our younger audiences on Channel 4 with a range of entertaining music content”, Bird said. “Whilst T4 has historically been a much loved destination for our young audiences, its popularity has been incrementally diminished over time by the digital revolution. In a landscape where Channel 4 now provides E4, the nation’s most popular channel for 16 -34 year olds, T4 has been fighting incredibly hard maintain the cut through it once enjoyed and now is the right time to look at more appropriate ways to serve our younger viewers.” |

. At least this has proved that midweek pre-watershed entertainment can work, thanks to them actually using a cushy slot to try it out, instead of shoving a crap quiz opposite Holby and then saying "well, we tried it...". .

Poor ratings for all channels, still no magic threshold of eight million for Eastenders but in general the ratings for every show channel is very erratic, has barb been screwing things up again?
It's very clear that something is wrong, I may jest about Eastenders but even I'm not convinced that its performing that badly ratings wise, BARB screwed up things earlier last month so I'm going to take their figures with the pinch of salt they so deserve, seriously it's like they have become a clone of Neilsons and we all know they like to screw things up. A note regarding the person of interest, five are doing a great job of pissing the viewer off, why bother with terrestrial broadcasts when you can see it complete from the Hula website. |

I agree with your BARB comment, I think when they begin counting more VOD the figures will become more relevant...

As for last night; Homefront stayed steady but recorded another poor figure. Hunted is in freefall but could bounce back next week, depending how Embarrassing Bodies performs. Plane Crash did very well but Channel 5 struggled. Good News is still not performing brilliantly in the tougher 9pm slot but Red Dwarf didn't see a bad decline and Celebrity Juice was as strong as ever. BBC Two yet again had a very good night. |

So will they be keeping the programming but removing the brand or trying something completely new on weekend mornings. And if they're trying out something new, what approach can they take which will pull in more viewers?
The real gap in the market on Saturday mornings is for a classic style Saturday morning show - and with neither the BBC or ITV intersted in giving it a shot with T4 out of the way maybe it's worth C4 stepping in their with a Saturday morning show aimed at a slightly old audience that the traditional kids shows. I'm sure that sort of show could easily get 1m viewers, so should pay for itself compared to the shows getting 0.1-0.3m viewers currently in the slot. Things like Big Bang Theory and Revenge could then follow from noon. |

The Big Bang Theory adjusted up 3 tenths to 4.5
Two and a Half Men adjusted up tenth to 3.5 30 Rock = 1.3 Up All Night = 1.1 Beauty and the Beast = 1.2 All the above three adjusted down a tenth. So The Vampire Diaries officially ties with ABC's Last Resort, lol. |

The sad thing is that repeats of CDWM would probably rate better than repeats of the E4 shows, in the early days of T4 they would show quite a varied number of shows like Dawson's Creek and As If.
