Making Faces is a good show, it deserves more than 600k

There is a problem when Channel 5's top rating and biggest share all day, is a 5.30pm repeat of Neighbours

The Plane Crash was an interesting example of using social media to promote a show. They had the wheeze of inviting people to book a virtual seat on the flight, then look afterwards to see if they would have survived or not.
For an hour or so before it started, people were tweeting "I'm in seat 52A" etc, others saw it, asked what it was about, and went to book their own seats.
#planecrash was top of the trending list for most of the show.
There was also a bit of backlash from people without Facebook accounts, who couldn't participate.

Channel 5 should be doing 1m at least at 9pm, I think Hatfields should do okay but I can't imagine it being the smash hit it was in the US.

The thing about Person of Interest is that while it's not hitting the heights of CSI or NCIS, it's not doing that badly considering it debuted to 1.4m back in August, 1.15m for the latest episode isn't much of a drop.

Cuckoo isn't doing as well as I thought it should. With an opening (overnight) rating of 1.15m and 6% share, I would have expected it to increase that rating + share, but instead it's dropped, with 789k in the second week and 593k on Tuesday.

Also, Russell Howard's Good News, despite the hype it appears to be getting over the internet, doesn't translate well in the ratings. A decent opener with 989k, then since it's dropped to around 600k. Will probably still make the top 10 in the officials but it deserves over a million every week, considering it is in it's seventh series. It's only made #1 in BBC3's weekly ranking twice, for the 8 April 2010 episode, and the 3 May (2012) episode. I would expect it to beat EE repeats and Family Guy considering it's among BBC Three's original programming.

I think that's the first time a number of their programming is over 200k. Some of the Disney/Nickelodeon imports are doing quite well aswell.

Most shows tend not to increase week on week and in the case of Cuckoo, clearly viewers don't like it hence why it's dropped. Same with Russell Howard although it's against pretty tough competition on Thursdays, 600k is still good and it'll get renewed for another series, you can't expect to beat repeats of Eastenders nor Family Guy as they have nowhere near the same amount of competition.

Tree Fu Tom was the nearest thing to a new show, having premiered two weeks earlier.

Incidentally, the Programmes website is due to be enhanced early next year, and include information on every BBC TV and radio programme ever broadcast, not just back to 2007.

Here's the details about T4 going:

A real shame and another kick in the teeth for weekend TV. Although E4 is very effective at serving the T4 audience C4 is still legally bound to cater for that audience itself and T4 was a great way to do the job, even if it has been weakened in recent years and then killed off by yet another weekend cookery show. C4 weekends are now in real danger of going a similar way to ITV's - removing one of the big hooks in the schedules means it could just fall apart and become similar to C4 weekday mornings with just low grade daytime dross.

BTW, how does C4 rate now in the mornings compared to when it aired 4Learning?

If Mr & Mrs is in a cushy slot, why hasn't it managed to win it - even with a Coronation St inheritance?

IIRC In The Night Garden only did two series of 100 episodes each which mean it can shown daily for 6-7 months before being repeated again. The fact Scooby Doo is still being watched despite being the episodes being 30-40 years old show the value of repeats.

So will they be keeping the programming but removing the brand or trying something completely new on weekend mornings. And if they're trying out something new, what approach can they take which will pull in more viewers?

We don't always get them, but typically Breakfast gets ~1.5m and Daybreak ~0.7m.

Poor ratings for all channels, still no magic threshold of eight million for Eastenders but in general the ratings for every show channel is very erratic, has barb been screwing things up again?

It's very clear that something is wrong, I may jest about Eastenders but even I'm not convinced that its performing that badly ratings wise, BARB screwed up things earlier last month so I'm going to take their figures with the pinch of salt they so deserve, seriously it's like they have become a clone of Neilsons and we all know they like to screw things up.

A note regarding the person of interest, five are doing a great job of pissing the viewer off, why bother with terrestrial broadcasts when you can see it complete from the Hula website.

Well an American relative has an account and I can get access easily via proxies, Hulu believe they can stop us no Americans , more fool them

We'll see what happens with Strictly and The X Factor tomorrow; especially Strictly which has got a very good slot with barely any opposition of which to speak. If that records a relatively low rating I think I'll start getting suspicious. If The X Factor records a very low rating, relatively speaking, it may be down the late finish so we'd need to know the breakdown first.

As for last night; Homefront stayed steady but recorded another poor figure. Hunted is in freefall but could bounce back next week, depending how Embarrassing Bodies performs. Plane Crash did very well but Channel 5 struggled. Good News is still not performing brilliantly in the tougher 9pm slot but Red Dwarf didn't see a bad decline and Celebrity Juice was as strong as ever. BBC Two yet again had a very good night.

I'd imagine things like Big Bang Theory might remain, but wouldn't be surprised at all that within a year it's something like Phil Spencer's Show without Kirsty and another Come Dine with Me marathon in the slot.

The real gap in the market on Saturday mornings is for a classic style Saturday morning show - and with neither the BBC or ITV intersted in giving it a shot with T4 out of the way maybe it's worth C4 stepping in their with a Saturday morning show aimed at a slightly old audience that the traditional kids shows. I'm sure that sort of show could easily get 1m viewers, so should pay for itself compared to the shows getting 0.1-0.3m viewers currently in the slot. Things like Big Bang Theory and Revenge could then follow from noon.

Two and a Half Men adjusted up tenth to 3.5

30 Rock = 1.3
Up All Night = 1.1
Beauty and the Beast = 1.2

All the above three adjusted down a tenth.

So The Vampire Diaries officially ties with ABC's Last Resort, lol.

The sad thing is that repeats of CDWM would probably rate better than repeats of the E4 shows, in the early days of T4 they would show quite a varied number of shows like Dawson's Creek and As If.

Well done to The CW, 4 shows above a 1 this week!! Boo at NBC's appalling comedy ratings, but well done for winning the VP analysis (broadcast) showing there is still viewer loyalty, just not enough appealing shows... XFactor staying below a 3.0 isn't great, not a lot of room to go lower...
