Surely that's something you should take up ity your employer? Do you also complain about gas, electric, fuel, beer, cigarettes, food and pretty much anything else increasing in price?

You hit the nail on the head. sure some services you have to have like gas and electric, those you can change between suppliers, not that there is much difference between them to be honest.

Sky Tv or any Tv for that matter is not important, if they charge too much then drop them.
Plenty of home phone suppliers at the moment, the problem is if you want broadband from someone else, you normally have to take their phone service as well.
If enough people said stuff it I am not paying that amount then prices would come down or the company would go bankrupt. the reason prices go up is because people will pay for it, certainly with Sky TV, it seems they can put the prices up to anything and gullible people will still shell out the money.
skys line rental has gone up 18% ! which is just ridiculous then they say that they are still cheaper than Bt by 10p well virgin is cheaper by 60p.
Sky, BT and the rest know that the majority of us need to pay line rental to access broadband, whilst we use our mobiles and even VOIP more for phone calls, hence why they whack up the price of line rental - we can avoid hikes in phone calls, but not for line rental.

If you live in a Cabled area then there is no need for a phone line with your Broadband service as Cable companies separate the Phone Line and the Broadband Line,
the Broadband line/service is shoehorned into the TV Line/cable in fact

I expect you do in some ways, so the only way to avoid line rental is to do something like I have and go wireless .
Its a business, no profit = no business = no internet. Wireless is not a viable option, far too many problems with it, maybe in a few years it will get better. I prefer a nice solid fast signal via a line into my house and not rely on some dodgy transmitter stuck on a church steeple lol

i agree, but I do think the line rental is way over the top and i bet they would make a profit if they lowered the price.

My connection have been stable, sure a few times it was nto as fast as it should have been, but they seem to have sorted that out now and I get over the speed i am suppose to get. i pay for 10 megabits and done a speed test i get between 11 and 13.
Far better than what I got with ADSL.
The transmitter i am connected to is not a church steeple, it is stuck on out Cathedral tower.
At least the money I am paying is going into our local economy, and not to somebody from who knows where. I am also not supporting Indian call centres.

Virgin Cable charge their OWN Line Rental - which is EXTRA to any of their bundled cable TV or Internet prices - BUT you stiull have to pay it to get any of the bundled prices!!! It is fully as much (if not more!) than BT charge.
While it is just about possible to order cable TV or Internet WITHOUT VM Line Rental - the penalties (extra monthly rental and/or no free installation) make this a lot more expensive.

Nice idea - but it's only available in very restricted areas, and if it becomes popular will soon hit severe bandwidth limitations. Most such service are also expensive, and only provide a certain amount of bandwidth per month.

It isn't "just about", it is possible and openly advertised on their website! I've mentioned this to you before, it's not a penalty but you get discounts on their standard pricing when you bundle services, as with any other service provider. Try to get 30Mb BB or higher for £22.50 without a phone line (which BTW is reduced to £14.50 if you bundle it with their line rental) anywhere else and you'll find you won't be able to.

Allpay appears to cost almost £30/month for the 'up to' 10Mb plus £100 installation cost. £!5/month for the 2Mb service.
'up to' 35Mb is available but I dread to check the price.
It states 'unlimited' with the usual caveats.
Not cheap by any account IMHO

After January 2013 they'll be 65p/month cheaper than BT.
However, you can pay BT 12 months in advance and save - currently equivalent to £10.75/month (£129 upfront)
It's widely reported that Sky don't offer the 12 month upfront payment now but evidently it depends who you speak to in Sky Customer Services.
There are several threads about this on SkyUser forums and the general conclusion is:
1 You can only pay in advance if you're an existing customer
2 You can't pay in advance if you're an existing customer
3 Only new customers can pay in advance
4 New customers can't pay in advance

And, as I have said to you (several times!) before, I only regard a bundle as sensible if I actually want ALL of it! There is NO penalty with Sky for not wanting to take their phone service (or their broadband even).
For VM it is not just extra monthly cost BUT also significant initial installation costs (which are waived for their preferred bundles) in not wanting to do it EXACTLY as they want!
