Red Button Fascists
So what's with the BBC?
On channel 301, watching a music performance, the "PRESS | O" (red button) symbol appears. On every other channel you can press GREEN to make it go away, and on the Sky-affiliated channels (?) pressing EXIT does the same job, but on Channel 301, nothing will make it go away. What is with the people who make these decisions? What would it hurt to allow people to make the MHEG symbol disappear if it was unwanted? [expleteive deleted] |

To answer the substantive question.
Channel 301 isn't a "proper" channel. So although you can register your displeasure with the BBCs operation of the channel, they arn't going to take much notice. (They don't even take notice of valid complaints on the main channels). If you can watch 301 on a PVR, either record and play back later or use the pause and resume function - usually gets rid of stray press reds. It really is a pity that equipment manufacturers don't provide a menu option - turn off interactivity. |

beside the fact that the BBC does take notice of comments ... It looks as it this was a technical finger trouble - which is a lot easier to put right!

Don't know what you mean by "technical finger trouble". 301 does have a problem with "press red" and "menu" buttons that cannot be removed. |

Technical trouble - It may be that the script that either allows the Red button to time out and or to be removed by green has not been run for that particular initiation of red button.
Listening to comments - the BBC did that for the ""jubilee boats" because the comments on the "Royal wedding" was that it was too stuffy - and need to be lighter! - But I think they agree that they didn't get it quite right ... and then it Rained so very very heavily! |

Don't think there has ever been an option on 301 to remove a press red once it appears, apart from press it, when you end up with a blue menu button. Sometimes press red doesn't appear at all if you tune into 301 rather than navigate there from a press red on BBC1/2/3/4. Perhaps this is the technical trouble you mean? |

they have publicly said that they will not pay a programme maker if they have too many complaints about BGM until it is re edited balanced -
- the stick - and a lot on BBC Academy stuff - starting with Danny Cohen http://www.bbc.co.uk/academy/college..._matters_cohen - the carrot .. (if you doubt the stick - there was one Programme with ever changing aspects ratios - and they could not recover it so did not get paid!) Quote:

Are you using a PVR? If so there is a crude workaround - pause the live broadcast for a second or two then continue watching, that gets rid of it. |

It might be something to do with the Beeb's decision to radically reduce / cut the red button services.
On Sky, the multiscreen has now been cut from 5 screens to 1 (being the same as freeview). So could be something to do with their end that they are doing? |

The Reason for cutting down the Red button feeds were established about two years ago
- in simple terms did not meet a PVT - as it is expensive to transmit ..... but as Sue_Aitch has pointed out now is your time to comment - I point you to my post on BBC Boards as there are a lot of things you need to read http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mbpointsofv...thread=8390642 Connected TV is the way forward which gives almost infinite Red Button channels - and as the UK Market is many years ahead of other ... now is the time to act! (In case you doubt BB rollout - 2/3 households will be able to get BT Infinity or similar within 7 months and there is also Virgin - but their Tivo is the way to go! ... and Iplayer HD can work on a sub 5 Mbit/sec connection..so no need for Infinity! ) |

Only if they make it as easy to record those as it is/was the broadcast Red Button streams or make the content available as view on demand streams via iPlayer or whatever. My particular interest here is the MotoGP quali sessions which are low in the pecking order if there is anything involving a ball or more wheels to show instead and which do not get put on iPlayer.
