Was wondering why has Apple or another computer company not got a pad/computer hybrid. That you can put on design, word, adobe stuff etc, usb drives etc and when needed take off the screen to use as a touch pad!

Plenty of these are available. And a lot more coming with windows 8. Just not from apple.

Tablets running Windows XP with a touch screen interface have been around for years. They were just never really very popular.

Bottom line is what you want a desktop machine for is very different for a portable tablet.

I'm not convinced we will ever see one device that does everything well.

you mean like this,

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Asus-Transfo...9165603&sr=8-1

It may not run the same versions of word, adobe stuff etc but there are android versions of all of these apps.

the windows 8 ecosystem is designed specifically to do that. it may or may not work. but it's going to be quite a change.

Apple would rather sell you both an iPad and a Macbook Air!

XP and the applications were never touch friendly. Also hardware wasn't ready. It has to be light with a long battery life. Nothing was ready when the tablets first came and failed. That should change with W8 hybrids. I am interested in one myself.
