So do I. I like her honesty and think she's a very genuine person.

I do too.

Yay, come on Victoria, top of the leaderboard this week.

(Probably not possible because of combined scores though)

Victoria does come across as a very honest and genuine person.

She should be able to get out of the bottom two at least if her foxtrot is good enough - she's only in bottom by 1 point, after all. I think the producers might give her a plum spot near the end of the show so she's fresh in the voters' minds when phone lines open, too.

It seems Brendan really adores her nad thinks it is a privilege to be her instructor/partner, irrespective of her actual performances.

And on ITT he came across as extremely supportive.

Is this the first time he's been this (clearly) in some type of awe of his partner? In the past it's sometimes seemed he's the one the celeb partners have some (type of) awe of more, maybe because he was the so called bad boy in previous years and that created some sort of show-excitement for them.

I think it's nice that Brendan is being supportive of Victoria because this experience seems (maybe more) overwhelming than she thought it would be and so an unsympathetic partner wouldn't have been that encouraging for her.

I agree, I just hope that she looks like she's trying this week. I love love love them as a pairing but I did really think that she looked like she'd given up already in week one!

I think she comes across as someone who is trying too hard to be liked, to build a career as a media darling. Seems fake and insincere. It's a very staged and a planned attempt by her to become a celebrity. There is nothing genuine about her, it's all an act.

I think you couldn't be more wrong.

There is absolutely nothing I agree with in your post.

Couldn't put it better myself. I love sport and admire those who carve out a career in media after they retire but ONLY those with some kind of charisma actually make it. VP has the personality which fails on tv and I think her agent wants to give up now

So did she fake her last performance? I just think she is a very needy person especially in this situation. She's learning to dance from scratch and needs the support Brendan is giving her. And good for him.

I don't know how you go through life being this cynical, you may need a reality check.

Anyway, fingers crossed she nails it tonight, all aboard the SS Brendleton!

She already is a media darling and doesn't have to attempt to become a celebrity - she already is one as a gold medal winning Olympian. I'd much prefer the media wrote about celebrities like Victoria who have achieved something from hard work and determination, and making their country proud, than the brainless bimbos from big brother or TOWIE.

Whether she wants a career in the media or not, she may as well use her celebrity status to achieve that, or would you prefer her to take her medals and hide away. If it was me I would grab every opportunity with both hands - she's earned it through years of hard work. She's only doing what we are all doing, trying to make a career where she can earn a living.

Good luck to Victoria and Brendan tonight.

A much better response than my 'I think you couldn't be more wrong' effort.

Yes indeed, good luck to Victoria and Brendan tonight, though hopefully, they won't need it.

I think she'll be fine tonight, Ballroom will be a more calming dance for her this week (if Brendan has choreographed it so). After last week the only way is up, and maybe it was better for her to make the mistake first week rather that later on when she'd be expected to make less of them.

As for this idea of why Victoria is on Strictly and her motives, why on earth the worry anwyay. She's just retired from a fantastic career in cycling and why shouldn't she give herself an opportunity to do something totally different and see what other things are out there that aren't wheels related. After years of strict training and media pressure to keep winning medals and titles why can't she do something like Strictly (or Dancing on Ice or whatever other TV show it could be have) and not be under the pressure to do it well. Dancing is not her previous profession so she's allowed to make mistakes.

No not at all, I think sometimes 'less is more'. I get a bit carried away sometimes.

I am nervous for her!

I want her to do well as I really like her. I don't think she will ever be a great dancer as she isn't very fluid but I do want her to do well.

Yes indeed, most sports people have to retire at a much younger age and it must be difficult to carve out a totally different career path. Victoria was used to having every hour of her day accounted for and I read that she decided to do SCD to fill the void of having nothing to do for a few months.
Michael Vaughan said he was in the same dilemma but luckily he got a job commentating, which he is very good at.

Oh, well said! *stands up and applauds*

There is nothing fake about her phenomenal achievements in cycling over the years. Whatever people might think of her personality (and, honestly, how can we really tell from what we see on TV?), I just can't understand how people can sneer at her. Whatever she might or might not achieve in a silly TV entertainment show is meaningless compared to her past achievements, which surely deserve our respect.

Go Team Brendleton!!!

I just don't think she's very good. She doesn't seem to have any natural rhythm or flexibility. So I think she should worry. She looks poor so far.

I'm sure Brendan will adapt his choreography accordingly. But the nerves you naturally get in competition can help drive you onward in cycling. They're an impediment in a dance context because they hamper your line/frame/etc. Your muscles are tense, your face freezes, you stiffen.

She needs some yoga or acting training to perform/relax.

I agree. She may be very fit and have abs to die for, but that doesn't mean it will translate into good dancing. Not only does she have no performance background, but it has been widely reported how difficult she is finding it to get any flexibility in her feet - years of having her feet tied to pedals in a rigid shoe are taking their toll.

I think she could be good eventually, but it is going to take more than just learning the steps to win over the voting public. I am supporting her, so I hope her Olympic gloss will get her through sufficient weeks so she has a chance to learn the performance side as well. As others have said, she has the potential to have the biggest j****** of them all. Don't write her off just yet!
