anyone going to see morrissey next week? I'm dead excited I started my very first thread about anything! (and I am a bit old to be 'dead' excited about anything)
This is just a thread just to wax lyrical, tell us where your seeing him / saw him ever / post set lists / comments
without having to be subjected to the usual abuse on moz solo
a nice warm place here
and if you don't like him, start your own thread!

not going unfortunately - but saw him at glastonbury in the summer - he was fantastic - you'll hopefully get a longer set with a few more smiths tracks - so enjoy!

i heard the glastonbury set list didn't go down too well with the crowd as he did alot of his newer stuff rather than some of the smiths stuff that he regularly does. Good to hear another point of view that you enjoyed it - i sometimes wonder if reviewers are at the same show.
I did see him on his 45th birthday at MEN where he did Headmaster Ritual, but I guess that 'smiths oldie' was just for the Manchester crowd, beligerant ghouls and spineless swines and all that. It was a real surprise treat to hear that again.

i wouldn't have expected too much old stuff, seeing as the new album had just come out. he did "there is a light" and "everyday is like sunday", so i was sold, and from where i was everyone was loving it.

it was a great show - really cool monologue of things wrong in the world, before he came on, and a bit of frank sinatra at the end. but considering how abrupt he can be, he really does just ooze charisma. wish i was going, but most of the dates are up north, plus we're a bit skint between a financial rock (wedding) and a financial hard place (xmas).

still, i expect he'll be back in 2014!

three days to go!!!!!!!!
know what you mean about his charisma
he's mesmerising live
not many artists can get away with making 'asides' between songs, but the crowd hold on to morrissey's words, his tales about stuff we know about him, its like a family affair
a larger than life figure, for sure
and he gets better with time
have i mentioned that I can't wait?!
and how we all want to hear him talk to julia riley....

Fanf***ingtastic!!

Just got back. That was unbelievable. I didn't expect him to play that but what a performance. Easily one of the best gigs I've ever seen. It was like going back in time.

The band were incredible. Five Smiths songs and they sounded just like they used to. Opened with How Soon Is Now, Bigmouth Strikes Again, Shoplifters, There is a Light (at which point I nearly shat my pants) and that fantastic encore. ....I'd hoped for a few more songs in the encore but hearing that again more than made up for it.

He started out in a dog collar, went through three more shirts which he threw to the crowd before sheepishly running backstage to grab another one. Five songs from the new album including the three singles. If anything I expected something from Viva Hate and maybe a few more from Bona Drag, Kill Uncle or Your Arsenal. He played November spawned a Monster (which he has every time I've seen him) and The More You Ignore Me but the set was mostly split between very old and very new stuff.

Awe inspiring as ever and nice to be able to appreciate it as much now I'm too old to risk my life in the mosh pit. Scarey to think that there were people there who wouldn't have been born at the time some of the songs were released.

Am off to the point in Dublin on monday. Looking forward to hearing 'how soon is now' since he didn't do it at the MEN when we saw him there.
'tis the last gig of the year so am hoping for something extra special, maybe he'll swap the priest outfit for a santa one.

i sooo jealous
of all the gigs Blackpool was the one I really wanted to go to, but had top work that day and lump it. I heard it was absolutely fantastic.
mizzmozz, i'm even jealous-er! - bet you get the best gig of the lot.
Come back on here and tell us what he says at the end, as the rumours that this is his last tour are rife, and if true, you are seeing his last ever show. Make the very most of...

I was daft enough to risk it (at my age) in the pit. I did get to come home with both shoes still on my feet though!
However I can't remember it causing so many aches and pains in me joints the day after when i was younger
lovin' the fact that there's a new generation of Moz fans being spawned

but yeah, that's the word
fanf***ingtastic!!

I went last night too. His voice sounds so much better when you are actually there. His sense of theatre is wonderful too. So dramatic and energetic. The banter is great too, so different to the old days when he'd hardly say a thing.

I really think the rumours about him retiring are rubbish. They started on the internet and he's got wind of it and is having a laugh playing up to it.

My favourite song was Friday Mourning. Up there with Last Night I Dreamt in my opinion.

reckon you may be right abouut the rumours being rubbish.
In the Janice Long interview he certainly seemed to be enjoying the gossip, plus with a new album due out next year, and the fact that he seems to enjoy being a pop star too much - i'll stick to adding these up to equal positive signs that he'll be around for a long while!

A little highlight for me was the change in the lyrics on bigmouth.

'...as the flames rose to her roman nose and her iPod started to melt.'

I think it was the '86 Brixton academy gig where he swapped 'walkman' for 'diskman'. Nice to see he's still keeping up with the times.

Next up are the Weddos in February and Ian Brown in March. It's like a teenage refresher course. In the right order too.

hopefully will get to the wedding present. do you know if ian brown is doing any stone roses stuff, or if that gig a while ago was a one off? he seems to blow hot and cold (and he was a complete arse at glastonbury), but it would be great to see some old stuff)

A friend of mine saw him last month and apparently he's playing 'loads of Roses stuff'. I'll ask him for a more accurate definition of 'loads' when I next speak to him.

I'm sure it's not as much as the one earlier in the year but if it's as many as Mozzer played I'll be more than happy.

BRILL.......was about 20 ft from the stage and danced like a teenager (my calves still ache)
Ged, i think, came on stage first dressed as a leprechaun with a feather duster and cleaned up.
How soon is now got everyone buzzin' straight away, I loved the Patti Smith cover he did, and I melted when he sang, I have forgiven Jesus.
Am skint for christmas now but it was worth it.

aww mizzmoz, loved reading that.
the 'leprachaun' came on at Earls court too (sorry, I went twice, i enjoyed b'ham soo much I had to repeat the experience!)
jondoe and you have both caught the experience for me - i was still in a haze for daze (not meaning to quote echo and the bunnymen - spot my age!)
after b'ham I ached in places I didn't know aches could happen
and like jondoe, i was overcome at points - not ashamed to admit it, (for me with 'last night i dreamt' )
like you said, i sang like a teenager, and the Patti Smith song - was too good to be true.
I'm still only just coming down! And skint aswell!

ah well, wedding present next...

Morrissey's Manchester gig is on VH2 tonight. Not sure if it's been shown before but it's the first time I've noticed it.

Hope they don't cut any because I want to see him sing 'I Know It's Gonna Happen Someday' without that stupid bit of dust in my eye!

Just watched it and was reminded how much of a special night it was, 'cos it was a home-coming for me as well as mozz, both back in our native Manchester.
