As to who killed Barry's mother

Spoiler
In the comics Barry Allen's mother was killed by Professor Zoom, the first Reverse Flash so maybe Arrow is following that story
”

I smiled when the lightning flashed, thinking he was about to get his superpowers
I also thought of Professor Zoom when Barry spoke about his mother. I read the Flash reborn graphic novel a few weeks ago.
For me, the Flash got his powers as a adult while Barry was working in his lab during a storm. Kid Flash is Wally West, and he got his powers during a storm. I'm an old time comics reader. I caught up in the 90s when Impulse was introduced- Bart Allen, Barry's grandson.
I know the DC universe has changed. It changes a lot. But for me Barry Allen will always be the Flash and in my mind's eye he is a blond adult with a crew cut drawn by Carmino Infantino.

The TV Flash will probably get his powers from the STAR Labs particle accelerator thing that keeps getting mentioned.

I may have mentioned this before but when Professor Zoom appeared in an episode of Batman: The Brave and The Bold he was voiced by John Wesley Shipp who played the Flash in the 90s series

I agree, I think it's been too often subtly dropped into the background conversation too much for it to end up not being what causes The Flash's superpowers.
I'm so looking forward to this week's mid-season finale although the synopsis for the episode is a tad worrying.

Spoiler
The synopsis for 2x09 reads; The Arrow asks Lance (Paul Blackthorne) to look into Gold, but when the stakeout on Gold goes bad, someone is killed.

Agreed. Sebastian was such a conniving sod, I couldn't see him being The Flash... and yet here we are with a very amiable geeky superhero-to-be.

I wonder if Felicity will hop over to The Flash show for a while?

Does sound like the best way for them to give him the powers - however will they show it in Arrow? After all they do have a 'no powers' policy.

I'm having a dopey moment.
Spoiler
who's Gold?

Bart Allen has also used the name Kid Flash during his Teen Titans run.

In the comics over the years there has been 4 heroes who haved used the name Flash

I wonder if John Wesley Shipp may show up as Jay Garrick who was the original Flash

TBF I think that went out of the window last week when we saw a guy carry something that could have only been lifted by a crane and brake a steal door down with his bare hands

He's
Spoiler
Cyrus Gold, Brother Blood's henchman, who Oliver had his big fight with at the end of last week's episode.

In the DC Comics world,
Spoiler
Cyrus Gold was the pre-death name of Solomon Grundy and he's a big super villain but they appear to be calling him Brother Cyrus or The Acolyte in Arrow.
After Firefly, Deadshot, Dollmaker, and KGBeast, potentially Solomon Grundy would be the fifth member of Batman's rogues gallery to appear in the show if Arrow's Cyrus Gold turns into a rotten undead monster (which I somehow doubt so they're just stealing the name imo).

Were you thinking it might have been Bane?

I thought it might have been. I seem to recall Bane was injected with "Venom," a similar drug to "Miraclo."

It was plot device to introduce an indication of the Miraclo experiments on vulnerable people.

But Slade is not dead. When Canary returned to Starling City and met with Arrow, she asked, "where is Slade?"

On the subject of "dead islanders," how is Ivo dead? I thought he was immortal.

He still looked the same (bleeding from the eyes) and Allow/Oliver know that some survive and some die during the process

That would be why death was in inverted commas.

Well that wasn't half bad for a half-season-finale.

Couple of surprising twists to boot.

Indeed. It is superb - character, storylines, plot threads, action and comicbook links, it does it all so well.

The Flash certainly has a tall order to follow. Let's hope lightening can strike twice (pun intended).

What a mid season finale for Arrow!

It's great to finally see Slade Wilson in Central City as I thought we may have to wait a bit longer to see him but I'm glad I was wrong. Also liked the origin for Barry Allan turning into The Flash!

It's just a pity that we have wait till the end of February to see Arrow again on Sky 1 especially as it returns in the US on 15th January. As that's a big delay!

It is, but I would imagine there are going to be some breaks in the US second half of the show, where as we will get it uninterrupted, so by the time the finale gets to us, we will have caught up with the US pace.

That was amazing
Such a long wait now though
Ahhh poor Shado. So sometime soon they'll be showing us what Ollie did to upset Slade so much.

I swear Stephen Amell just gets hotter

They may have started that already I think it will start with Slade blaming Oliver for the death of Shado plus that serum my unbalance Slade's mind so by the end Oliver had no choice but to take him down (with Slade losing his eye in the process)
