I really enjoyed last night's episode. The show is hotting up. I loved the reference to Laurel's fish net tights. I would love to see her in the black Canary costume, complete with blonde wig.

It's interesting how they're building on the original Green Arrow origin story. In the comics Ollie had to learn how to hunt with bow and arrows in order to survive. He was stranded on his own. I'm still puzzled by who the British guy was but I can see Ollie's friend on the Island is a runaway prisoner. So the island is dangerous in many more ways than just learning how to survive by living off the land. It suits the grim and gritty Dark Knight style conception of the show. Ollie has to save his city in which no one can trust anyone.

I still don't know why they had to change the name of the city from Star City to Starling City.

Marc Guggenheim says it was a choice designed to keep the show grounded. “Star City, it sounds a little science-fictiony."

He also says there are posters in the pilot where you see ‘Starling City is a Star City.’ It’s the nickname of the city, the same way that the Big Apple is the nickname for New York,”

I'm really enjoying this, enormous fun. The pace is excellent, and always a few little twists & surprises each episode.

It would be great to see more of the history of the comic in the show. Maybe Ollie could drive an Arrow car. I'd like to see Arrowette too.

Never heard of the Black Canary before {just googled}....I like... and Deathstroke, catching the Arrow.

But Oliver beating the Lie detector, Laurel not buying it and John as the Hood, not convincing....all to easy.
Did like how Quentin saved Oliver's life.

I am also really enjoying this like many here are, its got enough of an ongoing storyline to keep me interested and the Monster of the week content is not over the top. Love the flashbacks, certainly a lot better then I was expecting.

I agree, it's great so far, and it's a hell of a lot better than the Smallville knock off that i was expecting it to be. Even the appearance of John Barrowman isn't ruining it for me for once! Hopefully the quality holds up.

I'm also ever so slightly lusting after Thea (it's cool, she's 21 in real life, i checked Also discovered that she's the step-daughter of Brian De Palma!).

Providing they keep it here and there like it is now, if he starts becoming a major player in the show I may review it, cant stand the bloke.

I've got all the episodes so far saved on Sky+, but haven't started to watch yet. What shows is it similar to? Want to know if it's it worth starting it?

It's definitely worth watching, but I can't think of any good show I've seen that it's similar to. It's nothing like Smallville, which is the show people always mention in the same breath.

Finding it very whatchable. Unexpected events which you imagine will transpire in a certain way, yet is cleverly and sensibly played out to continue the story without insulting our viewing intelligence. You have to be encouraged to watch each week and they therefore don't just concentrate on the revenge element alone and go into the history of the characters, throwing in a few surprises here and there.

The Brit gave his name as Edward Fyers. That's the name of a character who appears in the original comics

Reasons to love "Arrow" tonight (26/11/2012)
1) Reference to Keystone City (Home of "The Flash")
2) References to Coast City (Home of "Green Lantern")
3) The Royal Flush Gang - In the comics they were generic super-powered bank robbers (one of 'em was even a muscle-bound Hulk-alike!), but this version of them as a family in trouble was quite nice and fitted in well.
4) Olly hanging from the ceiling in the Police Station - He's done that umpteen times in the comics
5) Snare Arrow used to trap the cash-bags! - I think this is probably the first "trick-arrow" that we've had in earnest, More to follow?

Also, we find out where the writing comes from in his Dad's book. What about the pages he'd already burned though?

I am absolutely itching to see if Thea will eventually twig his secret and become a side-kick. Her "Speedy" nickname was thrown around enough tonight!

Like the way Diggs is his own character and trying to humanise his mission.

I know there are some more DC bad-guys on the way, but I'm hoping it doesn't turn into a "how-do-we-make-this-OTT-villain-realistic" every week. Still a fan so far...

And for the rest of us, who neither know nor care about all the "in " references, it's just a really good show (with some gorgeous eye candy!)

Checked out the first 4 eps, but after seeing Dinah largely being used as a damsel in distress, I'm done. Fair enough, it's Arrow's show, but don't just use a great character's name for the sake of it, if she bears no resemblance whatsoever to her comic book counterpart.

If nothing else, it negates the possibility of bringing in Canary at later date. Unless Dinah's self-defence classes are suddenly going to morph her into one of the DCU's premier fighters.

Never read any of the Arrow comics, so any refs to the differences between the characters are moot.

I am enjoying the series for what it is, and that is a good action romp fest.

Actually, it's proof (like "The Dark Knight" trilogy) that good writing/acting/concept can make sure that comic-book characters work and appeal to everybody.

No more reasons.

On it's own merits, it's pretty average stuff. Chances are, if it had been any good, I'd have stuck with it, regardless of my disappointment with Dinah's role.

But nothing about it really jumped out, and after 4 episodes, Oliver's almost constant "I want to be the man I want to be but I can't be the man I want people to want me to be because I can't be that man without being the man I can't want not to be...." shtick was getting a bit tiresome.

And he's not the most charismatic man around. Yeah, he's playing 'intense' but Bale and Caviezel in POI are both proof that you can play intense without playing it bland.

Yes, I loved the allusions to the comics and the Royal Flush gang too. And it was an interesting touch to make them a family instead of a group of crooks with a gimmick.

I enjoyed the character development too. It's nice that Ollie's mother has more sides to her than just the mother who is secretly plotting with the evil characters. The romance between Laurel and Ollie's pal, and Thea revealing her crush was also intriguing to watch.

It was a great episode and I'm looking forward to next week's.

As for the Royal Flush Gang the Hulk-alike you're referring to would be Ace who in a lot of cases was an android rather than a human

Felt that was the main point this week for me, with Tom and Thea and Oliver and his Mum {but when he finds out}...Bank Jobs not that great, and the 'Family Gang', not very good, apart from one of them, having a shield.

The 90s version of the Flash was fantastic. My friends borrowed my videoes of it and they were knocked out by it. I would love to see a new TV Flash too.

I remember the Royal Flush gang as a bunch of villains dressed up as cards, but I don't remember the version witn an android.
