[quote=Natira]Just because somebody doesn't like G4 , doesn't mean that they are a Steve fan. [quote]

Sorry, even though I agree, that thought is too radical for this site!

Why do you say Will Young is on the way out? Was it because he only came third in Record of the Year?

it's never going to be big, and it's too clever for it's own good.

imagine kissing your beloved for the first time to a soundtrack by g4, you'd spend the rest of your lives having to sing like aled jones on crack to recapture that moment.

imagine inviting somebody back to your gaff and putting on a g4 cd, you'd be fighting to hear yourselves over that in-your-face and rather hysterical noise.

imagine sitting at home in a rare moment of relaxation, ooh, i'll think i'll put on that g4 cd, just what i need, the rather camp and tortuous sound of four opera-chorus rejects desperately trying to sound contemporary and meaningful.

i don't think so.”

When you put it in contexts such as those, your point is very strong.

I agree.
Music is supposed to be the soundtrack to many people's lives.(Apparently).
What powerful memory can be evoked by hearing G4 doing another cover of a Queen song?

I know. Their talent just consists of being talented at singing covers of other people's songs.

They are not judged on their own material. They are judged on their talent as Karaoke singers.

If they don't perform good original material, they only offer mediocrity to music.

But their respective TV talent contests don't allow them to perform original material, so they don't get to try it out on the public until after the show.
Then everyone realises that they aren't that amazing afterwards when their material doesn't cut it.

So what do the public do?
They wait for the next TV talent show and again make the mistake of judging singers based on their karaoke skills.

And what's so amazing about them then?

What's the point of a TV talent show, when the contestants just go on and do more of the same?

What do they do that makes it necessary to hype up some singer in the next TV talent show as though they are going to be a groundbreaking icon?

Why not just cut out the middle-man, hire them straight away, and not patronize the TV viewers and waste their time talking bollocks promising us with something so special, when they are only going to produce more of the mundane and average?

g4? i bet the producers are fighting to get their hands on them....not.”

That's right. The winners of these TV shows have a gift of being amazingly talented at being dull and unoriginal.

For one thing Status Quo have made a lot of money singing the same sound (or what sounds like it)

As for the silly comments on kissing 1st time and blah! Blah! imagine kissing for the first time to Shutta uppa your Face instead of the lovely Vienna (sorry younger posters wont get why I pick those 2 songs in particular!(and some of the older ones!))

new? oh yeah. never heard classically trained voices before. that's a new one. il divo, the three tenors, the kings singers, blah blah blah. how many rock-classical-pop groups are out there now? you can book acts like g4 for about five hundred quid a night to do weddings, corporate events and the like.

fresh? nah. everytime they appear it's just the same routine, spread out lads, get the blond one upfront to do with warbly high bit, everyone make big round shapes with your mouth. ooh that's fresh...

interesting. only to you, most grannies (deaf, but aren't those young men dressed so smart? it's nice to see a man with a nice haircut in a suit blah blah blah) and people who move their lips when they read..

NOVELTY - actual definition = freshness, innovation, newness, originality, surprise, uniqeness. G4 are all of these and more

I think they are more like the novelty that you get when you pull a cracker at Christmas - short term amusement value only.
