The first one I bought failed to boot after 9 months and I received a replacement nearly 3 years ago. The replacement was working fine until around last March when it could not find a signal. I know the signal is fine because another sat tuner I have works with the same connection. The signal strength/quality I have is usually 80 to 100%.

If I unplug it from the mains and leave it for a few days it works as normal. Sometimes I have to unplug it for a few weeks before it works again. I have tried resetting and the software is up to date. It has never lost its signal while we are watching it.
The guarantee has expired and as I live in Holland so it would be very expensive to send it to get repaired. Anyway, it would probably get a signal for a time as it had been unplugged so it might be difficult to replicate the problem.
I have read that there could be problems with capacitors, I don’t know anything about electrics but I checked and as far as I can see there aren’t any leaks or bulges in the capacitors.

Has anybody got any ideas or has the same problem? I would really appreciate any help.

It was some HD units that have the capacitor problem, not the HDR. Your logic may be flawed "I know the signal is fine because another sat tuner I have works" if the other received is not a freesat receiver. freesat receivers must get a signal from 11428 H 27500 - see manual page GB72.

I sometimes have bad reception from the stations on Eutelsat 28A at 28.5°E. I checked the signal on the 11428 h transponder and the quality was between 40% to 60%. Last weekend I re-aligned the dish and it is now 80%. The box has been working since last week so I hope this was the problem and it is now solved!

I finally bought a Humax 500GB HDR (from Humax) having previously used a cheapie Bush Freesat receiver with no problems. The box can't find my postcode and is unable to detect the Freesat signal. I've entered other, less rural postcodes and all have been deemed 'invalid'. I have tuned manually to non-freesat services, so can only record the current programme, plus there's no EPG (just now and next and even that doesn't fully load). I've had conflicting advice about what the problem could be, so thought I would see if any one here can help. If I remember rightly, the Bush receiver also did not recognise my postcode, but tuned manually to Freesat services (full EPG etc)

I'm connected to a shared satellite and my neighbours both receive Freesat services, one using an old Sky box, the other, I'm not sure about.

Freesat say the box must be faulty. Humax say the dish alignment is at fault. They also told me that my Bush receiver must have been getting the Freesat signal from another transponder, and Humax use the 'home' transponder 11428 H 27500. John Lewis tech help say the Freesat signal comes from the same transponder as Sky and that if the neighbour's Sky receiver and my Bush receiver are/were getting the Freesat services, then so should I and suggested the box was faulty.

Because the dish is shared, I can't just fiddle with it and would like to try and elimnate the possibility of the box being faulty before involving the neighbours. Any suggestions or useful info would be much appreciated. Please don't assume any knowledge on my part - I'm blundering around in the dark on this

As Humax said you need a good signal to the freesat home transponder which comes from a slightly different satellite position than the majority of freesat channels. Following the instructions on page GB72 of the manual item 2.

Firstly, have you got 1 or 2 satellite feeds from the communal system? If you have only 1, are you connecting this to input number 1 of the FOXSAT HDR?

Let's establish the above first, and take it from there.

Of course, you could take the box and connect it to a known-good dish set-up.

I only have one LNB and it's connected into LNB1 in. I've got a loop connecting the other two (as I understand I should be able to get two channels if they come from the same transponder)

Unfortunately, I don't know anyone locally with a satellite set up.

Sounds as though you have the box correctly set up for a single input.

You're correct about being able to either record 1, watch another, or record 2 programmes and watch a third (from the same transponder).

It is starting to look like the dish alignment is a little out, as you appear not to be receiving the "Home" transponder on 11.428H. This is why you're having problems with the post code and also no proper EPG.

If you've not done so already, try doing a "factory reset" (with everything connected up), and start again.

One of the best contributors on here is "grahamthompson", especially where Humax is concerned. I'm sure he'll give you sound advice.

Thought this might make it a little clearer regarding the Freesat EPG.

The Freesat EPG is broadcast from the Eutelsat 28A, situated at 28.5° east. If the dish is off slightly your box won't be able to receive the Program Guide Data and you won't get the freesat guide. (which basically means a useless Freesat box) Most of the channels may still be available in non-Freesat mode.
The dish should be aligned to receive a signal from both Astra at 28.2°E and Eutelsat at 28.5°.



From the HDR Manual.

1. Freesat Detection Fails / Invalid Postcode
• Unplug the Foxsat-HDR from the mains and unplug the cable from your dish which is connected to the LNB IN connection.
• Check that the “F-type” connector is firmly on the end of the cable.
• Power on the and follow the Installation Wizard again.
2. If still not Detecting the signal or verifying postcode
• Select NEXT through the Installation Wizard and then FINISH at the end.
• PresstheOKbuttontoentertheSETUPmenuandSelectManualTune.
• Select the following Transponder (11428 H 27500 A) from the list of Transponders.
• Check that you are receiving stable levels for both Signal Strength & Signal Quality or >50%.
• If you are not receiving sufficient Signal on this Transponder then you may require an installer to check your
Dish Alignment, LNB, cabling, or connectors.

I can only find 11427 H 2/3 which gives me the "Freesat home" at 90% strength and 70% quality !

IQ1 - re: the procedure you quote - I've gone through this (and, on the phone to Humax went through the red-green-yellow-blue-green-yellow blue thing and no signal from the home transponder).

REPASSAC - My confusion is that I was getting Freesat EPG on my old cheapie and nextdoor used to have Sky and now Freesat on their box. The only thing that's changed is a new box...

This isn't even on my list to search!

Have you received any pictures on the new Humax box?
If not, have a look at your satellite cable connections and make sure you don't have any stray strands of outer braid that may be touching the inner core of the cable.

Failing that, I really can't offer any more advice.

It's the same transponder, the difference is down to rounding the frequency. My Foxsat says 11427, some say 11428, King OF Sat says 11426.

Yes - I just searched 'All' and have all the channels I expect
(plus loads I've deleted). I've got most of the channels many times over. Lol!

The Foxsat is showing 11426 V 27500 A with 75% strength (and 10 - 20% Quality!). Should this have given me the Freesat services? (As I said, I just searched on 'All' transponders....)

If the reset doesn't work, try using manual tune with the default settings, this will find all the channels it can from 28.5/28.2E and leave your box in non-freesat mode. If this works then we can get a better idea from what channels you can actually get what's going on.

If the reset works and you get your postcode recognised then try tuning to BBC1-HD and press record, tune to BBC-HD and start a second. Now tune to NHKWorld TV and press pause. If you can live pause the box is working properly on a single cable.

The low quality on that transponder would seem to be your problem, but it is odd that you could get the Freesat EPG on your Bush box.

It was a proper Bush Freesat branded box with Logo and not just a Free to Air satellite receiver ?
If you can get the Freesat EPG on a Bush you should be able to get it on a Humax.

I tried Factory Reset. After leaving it searching for satellite signal for several minutes I stopped it and did a manual search. (Still no signal at all on 11428). Manual search tuned into 320 and radio channels. I don't see the HD channels in the list, though.

Maybe somethings changed, 20% quality is way too low. I have 100/100 on the home transponder.

Are the following channels viewable from the free to air scan ?

Ignore the channel numbers they are only relevant to freesat mode

I don't know what a Free to Air satellite receiver is, but the box I was using in branded Bush FreesatSD, yes. That's what I'm struggling with - that worked fine!

Zing is the only one of those I can see and it's poor quality (it pixillates)

Your reception has major problems with Eutelsat28A (28.5E), If it's a communal dish ask your neigbours if they can get the same channels using a Sky box.

All freesat channels are free to air, in Freesat mode you can see only free to air channels who pay to be on the Freesat epg. Using manual tune your box becomes a free to air box, no epg but will get a load nore channels that aren't on the Freesat epg.

Can you think of any reason I would have had the Freesat EPG on my old box before unplugging it to connect up the new box?

Check the f connectors on the cable ends are secure (you should not be able to easily pull the f connector of the coax cable end). If you still have the box why not re-connect and check if it still has the epg ? Did you use the same cabling.

I can only check the connector at my end and it seems secure. Have re-connected the old box - same sat cable but connected to the telly via SCART and the Foxsat was connected via HDMI . Showing the EPG fine.

eta: I just retuned the old box, to see what channels it could get and it also didn't recognise my postcode, but tuned from a 'default location'. The EPG is complete, but the channels you list above have no signal. I'm not bothered about the channels, so much as the EPG. Doesn't make any sense to me. Anyway - have emailed my neighbour - hopefully he may shed some light on the matter.
