Am I not the only one who does not like this...Marcus is gay and all of a sudden he and Maria kiss and now this...this may happen in reality but I just think the writers are doing this to keep Maria in the show...Maria is a deadwood character and Marcus deserves better than Maria and better than Sean...

I love the idea, dont think its been done before in a soap?

I'm really enjoying it! Marcus looked a little awkward before the ad break but then they were both going for it! I think the fact that the actors are both good friends off screen (see Charlie Condou's interview on this site) helps. They do have a great on screen chemistry, it's going to be interesting to see were this goes.

I think it's a really interesting idea for a storyline. The idea that you can fall in love with a person regardless of sexual orientation.

They did something similar in HO when Craig fell in love with his gay best mate. I don't think Craig ever stated that he was gay or even bisexual, it was just John Paul for him. Of course this is opposite in that it's a gay man falling for a woman. It's more sensitive because obviously you don't want this storyline to suggest that being gay is a phase or a choice.

It's one storyline, in any of the soaps, that I'm quite intrigued by.

I'm enjoying it so far. It's unconventional.

I wish they would get rid of Aiden.

They don't seem to care when it is a girl-girl gay storyline.

I am actually loving this, and it seems really sweet in a weird way. Maria is just a fantastic character though, really realistic and just all round lovely, so I think you can empathise with both characters which helps!

I like the storyline. I guess they are trying to show that love isn't just about what gender someone is it's about how two people connect with each other.

Maria is a nice girl. How does Marcus deserve better?

Who is 'they'?

I find soaps on the whole do stories about gay men much better than they do for gay women.

The thing is you can be attracted to someone by their physical attraction and you can be attracted to someone on a more personality connection rathe than a physical one. With Marcus he is gay, he fancies men but he has a close connection to Maria because they both get on really well on a purely emotional level.

It's why labels don't really work, we do need to become more of a culture which is more open minded.

I was interested when I heard about this story line and believed that it could indeed be possible, like people are saying falling for a best friend irrelevant of their sex and your sexuality but seeing them kiss That was just embarrassing

Then to add insult to injury having Marcus acting all weird with his boyfriend, brushing him off when he went to kiss him has made it look like he's turned / considering turning straight which is just ridiculous.

I don't like the way it's going at all.

Marcus isn't turning straight - the actor has made that clear.

Maria and Marcus could get together but as soon as marcus has a hot man (and i could have used a different word there!) on offer then he'll be jumping into bed with them.

I haven't seen anything that suggests that.

Judging from this, it should be a good storyline. I don't think they are suggesting that Marcus has 'turned' straight but he does seem to love Maria and perhaps the idea of being a family with her and Liam.

Well I don't personally think they are but all we can do is watch and see how it pans out.

This kind of thing can happen.

A gay male friend of mine, who has been 'out' since he was 14 once had a relationship with a woman, when he was in his 30s. He wouldn't consider himself bisexual, he says that he fell in love with someone (they were v close friends before anything happened) who just so happened to be female.

I agree with this. At first he just seemed rather awkward about it, but then it did seem all of a sudden he was giving her longing glances and treating Aiden in an off hand manner as though he had mysteriously become straight. Considering in all the time Marcus has been in the Street he has always been portrayed as confident and content with himself, it just didn't seem believable that he went from awkward to straight in one episode

Thanks for sharing and yeah I think the Maria and Marcus is similar to your friends situation.
