CS Anna and Eddie Windass
I have always wondered how they share the same surname despite never actually being married? can u change ur surname to your partner's without getting married?

You can change your name regardless of marriage.

Its the soap cliche to demonstrate a "rough" family - the parents are unmarried but have the same surname. The Jacksons and the Millers in EE. And the Windasses and the Battersby's in CS are all examples of this. All were originally meant to portray rough, poor families and all the parents werent married to each other but all the mothers had the family surname. In soap you only cohabit if your in poverty.

She could have had her name changed by deed poll when she Gary, so they could all have the same surname, without her getting married, I know people in real life who have done that
